Anyone experiencing DNS problems at the minute?

My Satellite Setup
DM 600-S, VU+ Duo,
Moteck SG2100, Fracarro Penta 85 dish, LG LH3000 42" TV + some computers
My Location
NW, Ireland
......There seems to be a problem with DNS at the minute and I was just wondering how widespread the problem is. I know its not my ISP because, I logged on to a UK based server and tried pinging a few sites. Quite a few were inaccessible, not just Irish ones.
 
Working ok here on the sites Ive been using this evening cf.
 
There has been stuff happening for quite a few days but I have just been assuming it had something to do with the virus infecting 8 million computers worldwide swamping certain sites. My connection seems fine tonight but has been ropey for a couple of weeks on BT.
 
I've been having a few problems with Tiscali.
 
No problem here (Pipex I think).

It was a constant problem for an hour, then intermittent for another hour or so. It's been back to normal now for the past few hours.

You could have a point about the virus/worm topper. Its spreading quickly, maybe some systems are being taken off line to remove it.

I automatically blamed my ISP at first, they are not known for their reliability. Then I noticed any services that were connecting using an IP address instead of a DNS name were connecting without a problem. Hence I could connect to the UK based server using its IP address.
 
Can I ask what this said virus is? I've not heard anything about it myself, not that I'm too fussed about it, as I'm pretty careful about what I do and where I go online... :)
 
Its been give a few different names depending on what internet security people are talking about it.

Its mainly known as 'Conficker' or 'Downadup' but there are other variations on the name.

Ah, I just read about it in the computer section, and all I can say is I'm secured, it's not getting into my laptops... :cool:

Is this still on going? I have had multiple DynDNS updates today and my ecm times are through the roof tonight.

Not sure tom, All I know is my connection has dropped to half capacity at best all evening (I measured it), sometimes dropping out altogether.

I haven't noticed that its DNS related. It could be, I just haven't checked.

How are you checking your DynDNS updates? I'd be interested in seeing my own stats.

EDIT: I've just seen the 'Host updates Log' link on DynDNS, but they are asking for an account upgrade to check it. Is there another way of checking this?
 
Cheers m8, I downloaded the Updater exe direct from the DynDNS website.Seems to have settled a bit this last hour, Ecm times back to a steady 0.15/0.25 ms with the odd increase.
