aspect ratios of sky chans

I dunno if others have noticed but is channel4 and skyone on sky digital broadcast in 4:3 or something, or do they have 2 broadcasts, one in 4:3 and one in 16:9 as i have scanned and picked up many channel4's etc, but the one i happened to choose is definatly 4:3 :s

Yes noticed this on the big tv. You can change the ratio in the menu.

i know you can change it, but are there different streams or something. Since on my dreambox it records it in 4:3 even if i set the output on both dreambox and tv to 16:9

Some providers chop-and-change depending on the source. ITV is a b*gger as a load of programs are 4:3 but the addies are 16:9

There are loads of C4 channels as these are region variations with slightly different advertising content. The aspect ratio should be same across all the variations at the same time.

I don't have $ly but there are many programmes that are still in 4:3 the most surprising being the news at 7:00pm. Others to watch for are older repeats and not so old American prorammes (although the new stuff is 16:9).

Ive figured it out guys

When showing a 16:9 program, they broadcast in 16:9, then if they show 4:3 ad's etc they switch to 4:3. I found this out by capping nip/tuck on sky one which i know is 16:9 and then when i demux'd the .ts using pvastrumento it cut it right at the point where it changes to adverts. Which proves they change according to whats being broadcast. Useful to know . BBC is 100% 16:9 though. But all other chans vary
