Has anyone managed to catch any sort of signal from Astra 1G? The footprint doesn't seem to touch UK and I know I couldn't get it on my Penta 85 in Tunbridge Wells.

I don't think your dish is big enough mate... but even so... have a try between 5.00pm and 8.00pm... that is when I now get my best reception results on this particular satellite... the signals were (initially) best between 8.00am and 12.00am going back a year... and a lot stronger also... right up until September of this year... but reception is now much much harder with my Fibo 1.2m from the midlands...

I used to post regular reception reports on JKF (with pictures) regarding Astra 1G at 31.5°E (and a lot of other satellites also)... I used to get good signals on quite a few of the frequencies for long periods of the day back then... again up until September of this year... I think that is when I posted my last report on JKF... I have still got all the pictures I took of the TV channels from Astra 1G at 31.5°E if you are interested... the pictures date from between December 2010 to September 2011

I check this satellite regularly... but recently the only frequencies I successfully lock onto are...

Hi again Captain Jack,

I think that forum member 'Llew' might be the best person to obtain some decent results on this satellite as he is close to the East Anglia Coastline and therefore much closer to the edge of the Astra 1G footprint...

Outside the footprint here too, and 8PSK transponders and low error correction make it even more difficult, but it is just about possible on the 150cm dish.

Interesting - thanks everyone! My Penta currently doesn't see beyond 23.5E and the CM beyond 13E so it was more of a hypothetical question.

How did SES manage to change footprints from when the satellite was at 19.2E? Or did it change as the satellite moved eastwards and so did the footprint?
 
CJ, FYI on the Laminas 1.2M I can only pick up 12090V.

hi - tried or this sat yesterday -- nothing -- :(
today however - despite thick cloud - and a north west england location i have locked signals from five transponders - using a 1.8 channel master :)

12090 V 27500
12012 V 27500
11836 H 27500
12304 H 27500
12168 V 27500

all are weak - and the picture on 12304 is breaking up now -- will try again on a clear day -
and see if i can improve on that result ---

Good results mate... maybe you were a bit too late testing the signal... was it just past midday that you tried...?

It appears that the best time of day, for optimum/decent reception of this satellite, looks to have now reverted back to mornings between 8am and 12 midday... early to mid-evening reception has declined all of a sudden... this has happened before... as stated in my first post on this thread... although I really don't know why this happens... a seasonal footprint shift perhaps...?

thanks for the tips - it was just before midday yesterday when i picked up those signals - and they all vanished in the afternoon, even -- 12090 - which was the strongest one .
not worth trying today - cloudy and "very" strong wind - too strong to use the big dish today:(
will have to wait for a quiet clear morning -- to do a proper test on what can be picked up from here

The other frequencies on the Western beam are in a different standard, the DVB Multistream standard. Those are the feeds for terrestrial transmission. Those frequencies can be received by special equipment only. Tp11 11914H stream 2, Tp15 11992H streams 10, 20, 30 & 40 and Tp23 12148H streams 10, 20, 30 & 40.
 
I've just scanned this bird (DVB-S channels only) and get good lock on
12090 V 27500
12012 V 27500
12168 V 27500
at around 44%. Clear sky, evening time 7.30 BST, West Yorks.
1.80m prime focus with modified smart white titanium.

However, as Nelson_B has said
12304 H 27500 7/8
is that bit weaker (28%) and I cannot get a lock. Perhaps it is too late in the day.

I'll try again in the morning.
 
I think the signals from Astra 1G must be very bad in the UK at the moment as I haven't heard anything from this sat for a couple of months now.

A few months ago I was able to receive 12.012 V, 12.090 V and 12.168 V regularly in the evenings and occasionally 12.304 H as well and once I even managed to lock 11.934 V (S2), but with a glitchy picture (Pro TV International), now I get nothing at all!

Hopefully we'll get a better signal from 31.5E when Astra 5B launches next year, even though the official footprints from SES suggests the European beam still won't cover the UK unfortunately. It's a shame they're being so stingy with this one. :(

i have the same result here around midday that -- "007.4"-- had a couple of evenings ago:)

12304 H 27500 wont quite lock :(
