Guys, is it possible to receive astra 28.2 in brisbane and does anyone have any idea what dish size you might need if it were possible. thanks
 
No it isn't I'm afraid, you can't see the satellite from Brisbane.
 
You do mean Brisbane, Australia, right? It's not a mispint?
 
Theres ~8000 miles of rock between Brisbane Australia and the 28E birds!
 
The only solution would be to set up a slingbox at an address in the UK and download via the internet in Oz
 
Is Murdoch not putting anything of quality down under either ?
 
It is a physical impossibility. It is like me wanting to view a satellite that is over the USA. Not possible.
 
thanks guys. i guess that the curvature of the earth might have been an issue but 8000 miles to get through :-) good response. we don't quite have the technology to get a satellite signal thru that just yet. slingbox is an interesting alternative. i haven't taken the plunge on one of these yet but have read many posts. seems a nifty bit of gear if you have the broadband uplink speed to support it. thanks again. mine is a very crap 512 kbs

If that's your upload speed that's not too bad but if it's your download speed...
 
Doesn't Oz have Foxtel? One of Murdoch's other Sky-like franchises? That said you obviously wouldn't get the UK content, just their stuff with some familiar channels... :)

As for the slingbox, yep, you need a fast upload, you're lucky if you can get 256Kbps Upload (with say 20MB Download, totally out of sync), this is pretty much due to preventing people home-hosting (either websites, media, filesharing etc.), for a proper upload speed in relation to the download speed, you have to go for professional packages which cost silly money... :(
 
I have the original sling box (with built in Freeview) in the UK on a 1.3MB upload (via BE Internet) and a sling catcher in Finland with a 2MB download and I got to say the quality is not great. It was OK on smaller CRT screens but now we all have large HDTVs it's starting to look a bit pants. If you are not bothered about live TV I would suggest going for something like a UK VPN account for the on demand stuff like iPlayer, 4OD, Sky Player, etc.
