Hi, people! I am wondering can I receive Astra 2D in north-western Bulgaria with 310cm mesh dish, Paraclipse Eclipse and Invacom QUAD 0,3dB... Is the dish good for Ku-Band fringe reception? I think it's one of the best dishes for C-Band reception, but for Ku ... I receive all the 2A and 2B south and north beams with my Paraclipse Hydro solid dish (240cm diameter) and Inverto BlackPro LNB. A friend of mine has received all the 2D tp's with 250cm solid dish in the capital city Sofia in the western part of the country. Another friend of mine receive the strongest vertical tp's with 180cm old Russian dish and Invacom QUAD.

Unlikely - its a C-band dish which will be pretty poor for Ku band. It will probably perform more like a 1.5 - 2m Ku dish.

My colleague receive all the 2D transponders (both verticals and horizontals) with the same dish in the town of Pernik (in the western borders of the country) with SNR 45~55%... What do you think?

Thanks. Is the Invacom QUAD the best LNB for fringe reception of Astra 2D? :)

I would suggest there is a general consensus that the Inverto Black Ultra has taken over now. It certainly works for me here in Gran Canaria.

Thanks for the reply. Should I buy additional feedhorn for the LNB?

Full 2D reception in Sofia with just 2.50m ? Do we speak of all V+H on 24h basis ? And this dish is it made in USSR or anything different ?

OT: What about the quality of Paraclipse Hydro 2.30m dish ? As far as i remember Christian Lyngemark was/is using this antenna as well. It looks extremely cheap to me (449€ in Greece, 23% VAT included). Watching the technical data it looks to be the same as DH 2.40m. So do they come from the same factory ?

I am using Paraclipse Hydro 228cm, but it's not the best choice for Ku-Band reception, I think. Or maybe I don't use the right combination of LNB and feedhorn / I don't align it very well... My reception results are a bit better than with Triax TD110.

7,5dB on the transponder with BBC2 England with Paraclipse Eclipse 310cm mesh dish and old Grundig LNB 0,6dB in the western borders of the country. :)

If the dish is not hit or bent you should have much better results than with a Triax TDA/TDS110.

So you're getting 10773H. Do you receive any other 2D frequencies ?

All the Astra 2D transponders. The verticals are a lot stronger than the horizontal tp's. :)

I don't think so... I'm talking about the 228cm Paraclipse dish. It isn't hit. I'll post example results later this evening. :)

Edit: Have you ever used the same dish? Do you get very good results for this size? :)

Edit2: If I install additional feedhorn for the LNB, can I get better results?

I haven't used this dish before so that's why i was asking you about its quality. Maybe i've misunderstood. Did you mean that you don't get better results than with a TDS/TDA 110 only on 28.2E/28.5E or also on other satellites ? Obviously you've meant first and i've understood latter. But tell me, don't you use a flange LNB ? Did the dish not have a feedhorn included ? If you are using an LNB for offset dish there might be loss because of the deeper f/D=0.375. Offset dishes mostly are made of f/D in between 0.6-0.8.

I think the 228cm Paraclipse quality for Ku-Band reception isn't very good for its size.
I get a bit better results with Paraclipse 228cm solid dish, than with Triax TD110 (110cm offset dish).
I use flange LNB without a feedhorn, because my father threw it in the wastebin about an year ago. :( The original feedhorn works best with the dish.

Without a feedhorn you cannot expect any PFA dish to be a good performer. Maybe somebody can help you here to find either the original or at least an alternative one with f/D=0.375.

A stupid question, but ... what is the meaning of the abreviation PFA? :) Thanks for the useful info.

You're welcome. :)
PFA= Prime Focus Antenna like your Paraclipse.
