Ah, the new Horror channel...

LOL. How very true. As someone who watches Prime Minister's Question Time every Wednesday, I know what you mean!! And the b.ggers are due a 11% pay increase in 2015, which would take Rank-and-file Backbenchers to £74,000. Not bad going for a bunch of rowdy t.sspots!!

Yes. Official launch has been brought forward so you can enjoy your Crimble repeats in HD.

OK, I must have got it wrong - I thought that I recalled seeing the BBC were waiting for 2e - then to transfer en-mass.

Now launched on Freesat:

147 BBC THREE HD
148 BBC FOUR HD
212 BBC NEWS HD
607 CBBC HD
608 CBeebies

You can get them now after a rescan or, like most will, they'll appear overnight during the 03.00 Housekeeping.

Did a quick check of the HD transponders today:
10847 V 12,5 dB
11023 H 8,0 dB
and the latter is lots of dB's lower.
Anyone else seeing this?
No trace of this white attenuation-fluff in the air today.

BBC Parliament means free lessons in how to insult someone without
using cusswords or foul language. Tested it today on a DHL "officer",
worked lika a charm. Personal delivery to my door tomorrow after
waiting in vain for a week. You can also use it as a sleeping-pill if
you had too many double espressos. A tranquilizer and a stimulant
at the same time - for emergency use only!

The difference is a result of two different satellites, Astra 1N vs. Astra 2F.

1H is now at 35.6E, heading slowly west to what we presume will be 31.5E, no doubt we'll all find out in a week or so's time.

And now for the FACTS

Astra 2E is delayed until Feb 2014 ..........................

Latest from SES:

"As part of SES' ongoing fleet renewal programme, we will be transferring all the UK Spot Beam transponders currently operating on ASTRA 1N across to ASTRA 2E. This move at the 28.2/28.5ºEast orbital location will take place over several weeks beginning early February 2014. The transfer will have no adverse implications for viewers in the UK and Ireland as the affected channels will continue to operate on the same frequencies and will be broadcast at the same, or slightly improved power levels, across the UK and Ireland. TV viewers outside the UK and Ireland may see an impact and may not be able to receive channels from ASTRA 2E UK Spot Beam, which has a smaller footprint than ASTRA 1N. The new footprint on SES' replacement fleet has been designed to meet the requirements of UK and Irish broadcasters who target their channels for distribution in the UK and/or Ireland. UK and Irish broadcasters hold broadcasting rights only for the UK and/or Ireland but not for other countries."

A Merry Christmas to all our twitchy Fringers!

So, it would seem logical to send it round the long way (and avoid any potential clashes with 1H) over the Xmas break so it will be on station sometime during January.

Yes indeed: The Main SES Website is as useful as a Chocolate Fireguard.

Lets hope the PR people have got the dates right this time!! 2E must get an award for the satellite to sit at it's testing position for the longest!!

They can move her at a speed similar to 1H and save a bit of fuel I guess? One assumes too that she'll be on station at 28.2E at least a week prior to the transfers commencing. Keep an eye on the Blog posts by Alix Pryde of BBC Distribution too as they'll make an announcement a few weeks ahead of transfers taking place.

If one were to be cynical, one might consider the possibility of flannel, here: They must be fed up to the back teeth of people asking for updates.

In my former life, if we were getting badgered by the Press about how an Investigation was going, we would tell them "It'll be at least a fortnight" or some such, even if we were close to finishing. Getting rid of unwanted distractions.

In this case, the counter is that they must know people are able to monitor Satellite movements etc, so there probably isn't much point in sandbagging as they'd soon get caught out.
