The only valid argument,
Actually no. We know because this is exactly what happened with Astra 2F. People in Germany were getting full spot beam power, and now many are getting almost nothing. And people in Eastern Europe (Crete, Kiev, Romania, etc) were receiving the same spot beam and now they have no hope. And people in south west Europe who were getting almost no signal during testing are now are receiving the UK spot beam with practical size dishes. Don't forget, these are not steerable aerials, so the orientation of the beams depends on the geocentric alignment of the satellite's chassis.

I do wonder once 2F was operational whether Astrium would have noted some of the overspill on the spot (e.g. Valencia etc) and had their antenna modelling guru's to tighten up on this with 2E? Time will tell I guess?
That aerial was designed, built, and fitted to 2E well before 2F ever got off the ground.

At this hour of the morning situation signal on carriers is the following:
10818 V-2.2 dB,
11710 H-6.6 dB,
12301 V-2.2 dB,
12403 V-4.1 dB.
There is one at 11039 V with 2.4 but I am not sure he is a test carrier.Certainly elsewhere in Europe the signal is different.

@Huevos,Actually your explanation does nothing than strengthen my guess but viewed from another angle.That's why I said it is a "valid argument"{let me quote myself}

That aerial was designed, built, and fitted to 2E well before 2F ever got off the ground.

The fact though that 2E was still at Astrium once 2F was operational surely means any chances they wanted to do could be done so quite easy by moving the satellite back in to the specialist Antenna test room they've got. If I get an hour free I might watch that "How To Build A Satellite" documentary I've still got recorded as might give us some clues.

So you're saying that 2E's UK spot beam aerial can be expected to be pretty much a carbon copy of that on 2F?

(and that the 2E satellite has essentially been in storage at SES the last year?)

Same situation in central southern norway for me, could lock all the uk spot beam Tps in the beginning 24/7 but as the 2F chassis alignment was adjusted now nothing.
Still believe the fringe reception maps did not help ( but just my opinion ).

The same happend here ....good 2f signal on a 1 metre dish Untill about ...January ......then the signal was reduced ....to what it is now....Not sure about blaming signal reports.....tho I had lots of arguments..with the late " Rob" at the time......about ....signal reports affecting fringe reception of 2F...........

Ps ....how do I stop getting emails sent to me ....if I veiw a thread or topic ....??

I'm not sure if those values are comparable between two different installations. They heavily depend on the PC card, and the LNB.

@str65,Of course it is as you say,but add besides these features and the fact that we are, geographically speaking, in other areas of reception.

Yes, that makes them even less comparable...

I think so too, tbh.

What did broadcasters and rights holders want with the 2F satellite? A spot beam that was as tight as possible. I am sure if the technology was advanced enough to make the beam drop to zero right outside the UK's three mile zone, then that's what we would see (or not see ;) ). So then when 2F was up and running, they probably read on the Internet that people were still getting the signal with larger dishes in countries that they specifically wanted to shut out, and that's when they nudged the beam further to the west in January.

What still blows my mind is how acute the "out of area" line is. I know of somebody who lives just 35 kms east of where I am, with a 2.6 metre dish, and yet, in the evening, he hasn't got a signal. Right here in Hanover, there just might be a chance to have 24 hour reception with a big enough dish. My Qbox scans in the evening during the bottom of the 2F signal curve do give reason to hope that it could be possible.

RTE can manage it pretty well with a tight KA-band signal... Perhaps the BBC should go that route if they are so worried of overspill.
