wow ! Tested the uk beams on a roughly adjusted 60 cm (!) here at my cottage in Norway, deemed absolutely impossible (especially the hd's), but amazingly strong levels. Will see later tonight when the levels usually fade quite a lot.
It did not last a lot...

Again common values for this mounth.

But anyone knows the reasons for these changes in signal strengh? A technical explain would come in handy

Here is a hypothesis for newer generation birds, but I will admit it is just speculation:

The beam-shaping in general is done using mechanical reflector design (narrow vs wide beamwidth).
I don't think the satellites employ variable-geometry reflectors, only steerable ones (ie "reverse AzEl mount").

The increase in perceived strength is either due to temporary increase in power output (more spillover and increased side-lobes), or from slight misalignment of reflector.
The power output could be for testing, calibration or whatever technical reason, but are unlikely to be for commercial reasons.
Misalignment could be due to general sat-drifting-out-of-alignment (sats are pulled this way and that by earth, moon, sun etc), or from having to maneouver (during the maneouvering, the satellite may be nudged slightly out of alignment as the thrusters probably aren't arbitrarily directional).

So - any increase in reception strength is most likely due to engineering reasons, and then mostly for alignment.

But this is just me as an amateur satellite enthusiast.
Perhaps someone who knows more can qualify this?

^^^ The temporary level boost gone, & now everything seems weaker than expected. Got the famaval 125 (socalled "140") up today (Norway cottage), 2E levels lower than normal but just receiveable. & the weaker 2F & 2G which used to be ok 24\24 on that dish, ok daytime but lost early evening.

Here in Sweden I have to move the dish to favour 2E or 2F/G if conditions aren't perfect. It's about 1cm at the lnb.

At my location in Sweden it would be impossible to recieve BBC 1-2 and 4 in HD, not being motorised. Whit a large dish , one has to be VERY spot on nowadays....

Is your 10964 H stronger than 11023 H? Today I get 70% on the first but 0% on the second.

If of interest, 125cm dish west norway daytime. 10964 good levels with margin, 'usually' ok in evenings. 11023 (HD's) lower levels and closer to cutoff, lost in evenings.

here, the 10964 with CH 5 HD comes in 70% all channels fine ,
and the 11023H (BBC news & 4 HD)only a flickering 0- 10%ish no pic at the moment(big clouds) and hardly a hint of broken sound.

So your 130 cm dish isn't motorized?

They're both on 2G. No need to move.
Seems from all the answers that 11023H is weaker and the problem is not my equipment. Thanks.

not motorized indeed ...just fixed
the BBC SD signal is almost always 70%_ish sometimes 65% sometimes 75%
so the SD version of the bbc is always accessible
,whereas the HD varies a lot and the bar often flickers,30 to 40% when it s high,10 to 20 when its low
,and therefore the viewing clogs on and off when it s 10 to 20%
sat & sun, great BBC HD,but today monday only SD
and the itv1 SD is very bad, it looks like an African station...

11023H is very difficult for me here, even on the 180.
It seems it is harder to receive that now than it used to be (2-3 years ago)...
Only 100 km east of here, I get it all on a 120. But then the 120 has a wider beamwidth, making it easier to cover all three 2x birds.

Thick clouds here this evening. 10.964 H 44%, picture starts to break up at 40% on the Azbox. 11.023 H dead due to the thick clouds.

You have also BBC HD in 10847V.
