Right at the East/West edges of the main beam (Like In Germany, parts of Poland etc, west part will be off the
western Irish coast somewhere no doubt) the signal will be going up an down a lot...It drops off so fast and with the
satellite stationkeeping of 0.1 degree (presumably) the boundary/ fringe area will be moving during the 24 hour period.
To make the beam that sharp anyway Dr D'eath (apologies if I've got the name wrong) is probably using some phase cancellation right at the edges to make it be so sharp so there may be little pockets of signal/no signal right at the boundary area, add to that the beam stationkeeping movement from the satellite and it's going to be a weird and wild fringe area !!

It already feels like the middle of the night here in Northern UK!

Cold, wet, windy and v.v.dark.

But at least we have the Telly to keep us company ......................

Things not looking too hot here in NW Spain above Portugal, but we need to wait a while.
It looks like the line from Santander to Granada is about the edge of the receivable footprint.

God I hadnt realised just how tedious the output on BBC HD is - Ive been keeping the Vuo tuned into 11023 to keep an eye on any possible power changes, and the output is desperately dull. Is this really the best the Beeb can do at the weekends?

Pointless is well named!

Ok, but surely its worth having seperate reception threads rather than one for all so people can find information easily without trawling through posts that are not relevant to them?

Sorry, missed this first time around: It may well turn out like that once popular opinion reaches a critical mass!

Got to start somewhere and whatever we do will not please everyone: But we will try our best to adapt as we go along and let everyone have their say without it all getting out of control.

Threads might be unlocked tomorrow, come what may - this one has become a bit of a free-for-all by now.

Ok:

We have decided that we shall indeed open the Locked Threads regardless by about 09.00 GMT tomorrow - earlier if anything material happens.

If it is still all quiet overnight, at least you'll have a chance to divide into whatever factions you choose before all hell breaks loose!

Telly is working well at the moment, and in this house at least we've got so used to BBC 1 and ITV 1 since they first came on Satellite years ago, that if we lose them we'll suffer some sort of withdrawal symptoms I'm sure. In the meantime, fingers crossed!

Doubt whether they'd do it on a Saturday night/Sunday morning
why the bertzdorf centre controls 52 satellites round the world .... its yesterday and tomorrow inside that building ...
they will do it as when the list of things they have to do has been complied not by the calender

The uplinks are done by the various UK PSB's,they want to change over when there's the least viewers
watching...2D-1N was done at that time...When 2A became live it was 0200 UK time in 1998 but that was a month before the Sky Digital service started and wasn't being officially watched by anyone.

The BBC put out a press release before they switched to 1N from 2D to warn viewers there might be loss of signal at that time.

If changeover time is usually 0400-0500 UK, Portuguese and Canary time, I'll set my alarm for 0600 Spanish time. But then again maybe I won't, as I don't really want to be in the wife's bad books, especially with Christmas just round the corner! Yesterday I was trying to explain to her that a C band LNB would be a suitable gift...and no, it's completely different from all the "other ones" in that box in the shed.

As the 11023H reports have tailed off this is the current state of the map as of 1900 uk time 24/11.

It will be cleared once 2F goes propely live & we have some proper data to work with - I'll start again :)

If they haven't done it yet, that means that migration will not happen tonight nor even tomorrow night. I think it will happen sometime next week, however others e.g. ITV may do it earlier.
