11023H 23000 2/3 DVB S2 8PSK still at 100%ss and 100% sq in Valencia

It's lashing it down here in Cheshire and I've just done some checks on my Panny Freesat PVR, quality is higher on 11023H at about 30% above rainfade margin where 10847V was at 10% and about to fall off the cliff edge loosing lock. Normally these are both at 100% but it is literally bucketing down here so a good test and the rain appears to have arrived at a convenient time for it! My Horizon HDSM doesn't support S2 so can't connect up to do proper MER, carrier level and C/N measurements.

It looks like this is the first 2F TP to be illuminated, one thing to also bear in mind with this is if the C/N is now some 5 or 6dB higher, the BBC and other broadcasters may decide to relax the FEC further once full migration is done, thus from 2/3 to 3/4 or 5/6. The beeb are keen to drive efficiencies and can make a few quid by selling extra bandwidth, it's only the UK they want to protect and it seems the higher power EiRP 2F delivers will potentially allow for this. Didn't the spec for 2F put spotbeam field strength 3dB higher than 1N's present?

We all thought 1N blew the windows out field strength-wise, 2F is going to be 3dB stronger on the spot and compared to 2A will probably be about 10dB stronger in the UK.

actual no signal on 11023H for me. Thats the result of a scan from 10964H, 10994H, 11023H and 11053H

here again the scan result from 19.11.2012 from 10700 - 11200 MHz

11023H 23000 2/3 DVB S2 8PSK still at 100%ss and 100% sq in Valencia
and looked again and have same result but now through heavyish rain and very dark cloud.

can they ´move´the spot beam as it seems to be to far west for the centre of britain (esp scotland)

So if the FEC goes to say 5/6 then fringe reception gets worse???

Especially with the 8PSK modulation.

I am still pretty convinced i will need a larger dish in the longer term. Germany and the Nordic countries are looking a bit sad at the moment....Raining here now and SQ at 20% and now pixellation bad

Hi All, just checked 11023 on spiderbox in Villaverde Fuerteventura, 2.4 m channelmaster dish, no signal, was there the other day when tuned it in. Mind you it's possible the dish could be a bit off, haven't needed to tweek it since 1n started. It was only a test so who knows, I guess BBC do. All other channels from BBC ITV 5 ect ok as normal.

I dont think so once its in space....

The attitude of the craft can be altered, though.

Consider it like a torch >> You can't (normally) alter the beam, but you can move the entire torch to alter where the beam is pointing.

Perhaps that is one of the pre-operational exercises they are conducting with this 11023 Test?

That said, any fine positioning must not degrade the wanted performance on the other beams: Balancing act.

Don't have any fancy metres here for db levels in Fife Scotland but getting 97% Level/Quality on 11023H via Sky dish

EDIT: Should add, that's in heavy rain, so impressive.

Hello!

"Real time satellite tracking" shows Astra 2F at 27.14E UTC 17.24.
If this is the position at the moment, is it possible the north-eastern part of uk spot beam is not as strong as planned there(1.06 degre west)? At the same time the south-western part shows an increased strength(parts of Spain/ Portugal)

At my place I have no reception from tp.11023H compared to 10847V with L= 100% and Q=100% from 1N now.

Regards

Yes, but on SD channels it is already 5/6 so only tighter option is 7/8 which wouldn't be much extra bandwidth. Raising DVB-S2 8PSK transponders from 2/3 is unlikely at the moment. It seems to be an SES standard. 2/3 for DVB-S2 8PSK transponders, and 3/4 for DVB-S2 QPSK transponders. Same on 19E.

Also, they are not going to want to lower the power because one of the points was to allow enough signal so that zone one dishes could be used in all parts of the British Isles. And the other thing not to forget is the band C transponders are slightly stronger than the ones lower down the band.

All in all I think SES will be quite pleased with the results of this spot beam. There's a complete cut off out to the east, and in most other areas you would need a dish bigger than UK planning would allow.

Either way round, there is going to be a lot of people in Spain saying " I see nuthink"! Is it Fawlty? :-downt

Oh Dear, if you are still getting 11023 in Scotland then it'll be bad news here in the Canaries, hopefully they are messing with the power levels. The missis say's she will go back to uk if we lose Emmerdale ect, I of course will stay in the Sun, bring it on!

No, it just means the TLE is out of date.

Why ??? I think there will be many more in Spain turning on some so called installers who have told them things will be dire and there wont be any chance of getting UK TV and been selling expensive relay and internet systems!!!! So far things dont look so bad.
