they dnt have much room to alter it, all they can do is move the bird into a slight different angle, move the bird a fraction off 28.2E and reduce power, the beam is fixed now it cant be changed

The beams can be slewed electronically - no need to move the bird at all.

Can we have the results from the Norwegian jury? :D

Here are the results from the Norwegian jury :-) :

Trondheim Norway (63,4N 10,4E)
Below I repeat my report from 22. november.
In clear sky, for the last 18 hours: Last evening 52%, this morning 46%. I have not noticed a significant change of signal strenght since the 22nd of november. It is stabile and give med uninterupted picture and no problems or fades.
It seems like 2F has the same signal strenght as 2D used to have, 1N has made us into spoiled children :-biglaugh
To anyone at the west coast of Norway having trouble with receiving 2F I would recommend a bigger dish :-), maybe 90cm or 110cm is enough there.

******
Trondheim Norway in light rain, using a Dreambox 8000:
1.8m dish 11024H 8.6dB or 49% (Astra 2D used to be between 50-60% on this dish, the limit for receiving any useable picture is about 36%, H transponders on 2D were under this level some times)
1.1m dish 11024H No signal

Example from 1N, under same conditons:
1.8m dish 10847V 13.3dB or 76%

Generaly the 1.1m dish receives Astra 1N with signal around 60%

[...]if they have found a problem with the beam they might be tweaking it[...]
Well they're going to need a pretty long ladder for that. TBH this thread is starting to get ridiculous. The beam is doing what it is supposed to be, which is covering the UK and ROI with zone one signal. They are not going to reorientate the satellite, at the detriment of the UK to try to stop a few thousand people with out-size dishes in fringe areas from receiving the signal. These broadcasters have chosen to have their channels FTA with the knowledge that there will be overspill to some degree. And each migration to a new satellite has lowered that overspill to a large degree. 2F has a small overspill into France and Eastern Spain (on out-size dishes) due to the necessary north/south elongation of the beam, but most other areas are completely in the dark.

I fact it is probably the tightest spot beam Europe has ever seen.

Testing has been completed & 2F is in service. Thats from the official SES press release.

I read this press release the other day. It suggests that 2F is in its final position. So why does this (http://www.n2yo.com/?s=38778) give a longitude reading of 25.34 (yesterday it was 25.78). I know this topic has been touched on before but, assuming this site is correct, why is it not reading 28.2 ?

Beause the orbital elements are only updated once a week or so. Sometime in the next 2 or 3 days they will be updated and 2F will "jump" back to 28E.

Because it's not correct and they just make it up.

hi all !!
on sky box HD when we have 12% signal what is the really db?
north greece thesaloniki with 1m dish on sky box HD had 12% and lock the 11023 H when bbc had f1 qualifying .
thanks !!

We should ask him (Freddie) which receiver model exactly he is using. Indeed he told us that he was watching for some hours around 5pm local time. I have asked him to take a screenshot because i knew that this would barely believe anybody. Unfortunately the time he read my message the reception window was over and 5% (4:30am) were not enough anymore to lock the frequency. He will keep an eye on it and if the up and down is periodic he probably will be able again to watch this evening. I will return as soon as we have more information on that.

P.S.: Not that far from Thessaloniki (40.64N/22.94E) the situation looks quite different. In Trikala (39.55N/21.77E) 2.40m Channel Master has not shown more than 2dB up to now. The dish is very well aligned concluding from other reports of this DXer (wos12). Maybe he has missed the high period of signal which also is not for sure that it's everywhere at the same time slot.

I wonder if this is a deliberatly move East, or rather the bird's remaining "wobble" after the speedy move to 28.2E.
Let's wait and see if the beam moves West in the evening.
bit a move by SES to get max signal for its UK clients using min power has nothing to do with outside uk
these are professional engineers doing tasks ...

PS HEAVY RAIN IN TENERIFE - HAVE LOST SKY NEWS ON A 1M DISH ....

Popular belief (based upon qualified but non-attributable sourcing from SES itslef) was 23-26 Nov, but that seems to be delayed.

All we can say is "Imminently"

im not saying they are trying to stop all fringe receptions its impossible firstly there is always goign to be blips in the beam, secondly as you said peopel will buy bigger dishes, yes there main focus is to make sur ethe uk gets teh signal as strog as possible, but they will try make it harder for fringe areas as much as possible, think about this way, in the minds of bbc/ses what hte less of the to evils, uk spot beam being received in quite big propotion of europe, having it receveiable in europe but only ith big dish, or give iceland more power but meaning europe has less, the centre of the beam can be moved and that what it looks liek there doing after that they will probally reduce the power down so it about 85-90 SNR i think that be equilvent of 54 RIP/DB power
im sorry again they have no interest in people watching it in europe or not .the beams raison detre is it only covers uk .that was worked out long ago now they are stareing at the uk trying to get max cover for min power ...esp as our friend says northern Scottish isles - dont forget they have the republic of alba to deal with soon so got to get it right ....

Exactly the same good readings as yesterday here on the Northern Costa Blanca.....

11023H reads around 7 - 8 % less signal strength than 18847V on all dish sizes
