Despite similar set-up to "TonyWhalley" up the road, I'm only getting the Ch5 transponder in Munich City - and then during daylight hours.

Facts...
Ch5:
  • At C/N of 1.9dB, picture freezes and lock is lost.
  • C/N otherwise has varied from 2.5dB up to 4.0dB during the day and made for good watching (assuming one wants to watch Ch5).
  • Prior to migration, I was getting 10-10.7dB C/N on this transponder.
11.023
  • This transponder does not lock, but the reported signal level is apparently above the noise floor (whatever that means for a reported "level" of 55% compared with 11.100 received level of ~40%)
  • For a few hours one Sunday morning, it did lock with 2.5-3.0dB C/N

Other 2F Transponders
  • Appear with "moderate" signal levels (above the apparent noise floor by 10-15%-pts), but are not locking

Thoughts...
Probably some fine tuning would get me a dB or so, and extend reception time.
When the dust settles, I'll probably invest in a 1.5m which ought to buy me a few extra dB of dynamic range (compared to the battered 1.0m in use now) in the link budget.

SNR(signal quality) down about 10-12% on 8091 8911 at 73% (normal in evenings here) and all the others ie CH5... at 80-82% SNR as we speak. The Sky HD box curiously shows the Channel 5 bouquet and CH4 HD at 100% signal quality and strength ...........shows perhaps how crap they are as a monitoring tool

The 110 cm in Chania South of Greece seems to prove that the oval footprint center at the Southern end runs from London to the Sea of Crete outside this zone the signals drop off dramatically.

My Satellite Setup
Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.
My Location
Normandy, France
Although I normally use a Triax TD 88 here on a multi sat set up for reception from 28.2°E, I thought it might be worthwhile trying a smaller dish.

I used a solid oval dish (60 x 50cm) with an LNB from a DIY shop. I've taken the readings using my Satplus meter which is DVB S only and it was partly cloudy but dry.

10964H 66 strength/76SNR
10994H 68 strength/72SNR
11052H 67 strength/74SNR
11126V 60 strength/79SNR

I'm located near the village of Heusse, Lower Normandy, France. That dish is probably more representative of the type a lot of ex pats use for their reception here.

The pink flag with no central black dot is no reception in Chania.

The furthest south east reception atm is the yellow pin for the 150cm in Bologna in northern Italy,a nd that ones right on the edge soi its debatable if that pin should be pink with no dot as well as theres no hope of the reception holding up when it rains...

Thanks for that info Analoguesat

Here is the possible sequence of events to follow @ 28.2 east

Astra 2F is reported to not be able to cover 10700 to 10950 so we will probably have to wait for the launch of Astra 2E that covers 10.7 to 12.75GHz as does 2G,

I still find it hard to believe that Astra 2F cannot cover these frequencies unless this was a part built Eurostar E3000 satellite meant for another location ? so may have been used to get the African service up & running quickly that it has done & by 27th November as scheduled,

Next sequence of changes at 28 east transfer of transponders from Astra 1N to Astra 2F:
11.023 H, SR 23.000 FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 *PSK "8901" and "8911" (BBC 1 HD's) already there
10.964 H SR 22.000 FEC 5/6 (CH5/5USA/5*/Channel 5+1),
10.994 H SR 22.000 FEC 5/6 (ITV 1 Granada HD/ITV 1 Central South West SD/ITV 1 Anglia West SD/ITV 1 Meridian North SD/ITV 1 Yorkshire East SD/ITV 1+1 Yorkshire SD),
11.052 H SR 22.000 FEC 5/6 (ITV 1 Central South SD/ITV 1 Central East SD/ITV 1+1 Wales SD/ITV 1+1 Westcountry SD/ITV 1+1 Tyne Tees SD),
11.126 V SR 22.000 FEC 5/6 (Channel 4 HD/4Seven SD)
Completed.

The next part of the change over is dependent on the capability of Astra 2F to cover the Ku band below 10950 for the transfer of all transponders on Astra 1N if this is not possible then we will have to wait for Astra 2E launch in the 1st Qtr of 2013.

Phase 2 4th Qtr 2012 will be the transfer of Astra 2B transponders to Astra 2F
11739 V
11876 H
11895 V
11954 H no transmissions atm
11973 V
11992 H
12012 V
12032 H
12110 H
12246 V
12304 H
12344 H
12402 V no transmissions atm
12441 V no transmissions atm
12480 V

Astra 2B will then move to 19.2 east

Phase 3 1st Qtr 2013
Astra 2E will then after a successful launch will replace Astra 1N @28.2 east
Astra 1N will then move to 19.2 east

Phase 4 1st Qtr of 2014
Astra 2G will replace Astra 2A & if allowed to the 3 satellites 2E,2F & 2G will cover the whole of the Ku band 10.7GHz to 12.75GHz @ 28.2 east.

Have a look at slide #25 & 26 here @ www.ses.com/11572422/120522_CDO_Investor_Day_FINAL

from 22nd May 2012.

The interesting thing is slide #26 is stamped 'corrected slide' - so what date was it corrected....? But taken at face value it infers that 2F was always scheduled to be a replacement for 2B African beam.

Tin foil hats to standby.
