Astra 2G at 28.2E: General Discussion

Uplink would be on a different frequency.

If you know the uplink frequency (ranges) of 2E/2F/2G, could you share them with us?

No change here that can be seen ! Still all breaking up from early evening ! C5's worse today but it's all been bad for a while now as usual. Early part of the year was almost 24/7.

At TLE epoch (15 June 20:18 UTC) location was 28.2°E.
So indeed 2G will be there or further West (28.05°E or so), if uplink beam must be separated from Astra 2E 28.35°.

Not necessarily. They could've looped him in. I think the location of 2G is currently unknown.

Don´t be so daft! It is alive and kicking at 28.2 ish, otherwise I, and 4 ···· other people would not be able to see it, without going outside and moving the dish, again.
WHICH I AM TIRED OF DOING!

The location must be near 28.2 (so not in 28.1 or 28.3), as I was moving my 5m dish towards 28.35, the 10964H signal level decreased. Same also when moving from 28.2 towards 28.0...

NEW ASTRA 2G TO BE SWITCHED ON TONIGHT, ITV MOVES IMMINENT
Previously-accurate reports from a TV industry source are indicating that a number of channels will be moved overnight to Astra 2G, which arrived at its permanent orbital slot earlier this week.
The channels affected, which are currently on Europe-wide beams, include BT Sport 1 & 2 HD, Animal Planet, LBC Radio and Heart Radio. If the previous 28A switching pattern is repeated, they will go the UK-only beam, leading to loss of signal in eastern and southern Europe.
The remaining Eurobird 28A channels will be switched, probably to 2G, by the end of the month.
It also looks as though a number of ITV channels will also be moved in the small hours of the 18th. June. Changes are normally made between 1 and 3 am.

a few more words help explain the situation to us lesser mortals!
2 co-located satellites means 2 sets of uplink frequencies. Co-located satellites are to close together for uplinks to be on the same frequency for both satellites.

Some initial evening results, bad weather, cold, rain (where the h*** is the summer??)

10.964H Channel 5 Miracle! stable picture (just), 1st time in months.
10.994H ITV breakup\loss, stronger than 2F
11.024H BBC lost (=2F)
11.053H ITV lost (=2F)
11.067V ITV breakup\loss, stronger than 2F
11.097V ITV breakup\loss, stronger than 2F
11.127V Channel 4 Excellent! with margin.

On 2F all were gone in the evenings, so this looks good. Watching 5* Poltergeist :O)
Waiting to see how it behaves in the coming days, will post in scandinavia-baltics-reports.

It´s here, only downside is we lose 0.00537dB of signal because of it!

( Sorry, light-hearted remark to soften what may happen tonight )

John, your results don't correspond with mine at all. Famaval 1.8m. BBC2 England, 11.7dB. C5 11.4dB.
Morning,
Well, arrived back last night at 21.30hrs and got the same results on the Marrafa and Famaval but this morning with the Famaval things are 'better' as a 7.00hrs scan:-
28.2ºE 18-06-2015 a 07.00hrs.webp
28.2ºE 18-06-2015 b 07.00hrs.webp
28.2ºE 18-06-2015 c 07.00hrs.webp 28.2ºE 18-06-2015 d 07.00hrs.webp 28.2ºE 18-06-2015 e 07.00hrs.webp 28.2ºE 18-06-2015 f 07.00hrs.webp
So H and Brian.....having used the Famaval with the TBS5925 card and the Marrafa with the onboard Samsung 48'' LED tuner.... both showing as posted yesterday and this morning scanned with the Famaval and TBS5925 as above.....¿¿¿???
Would say that initially yesterday having used two seperate scan mechanisms that the results were correct and certainly this morning 10993 H and 11023H the dB is lower .......whatever....pleased that you both retained the frequencies and helped me take a look this morning.

¿Is there much change for yourselves dB wise this morning?

Have a good day. respect-048.gif

C5 is up to 12dB now. Is this really a different satellite? Or was it just doing some station keeping maneuver that caused us to see a signal change. Once I've got 24 hours data I'll be able to compare. If I had to guess I'd say all these transponders are on the same satellite as 24 hours ago.

No special Maneuver (SES data)

Example of the 2F wobble of the past few days
allweek-150603 .webp

yesterdays wobble was completely different and overall the SNR was much higher

allweek-20150618-2.webp

But there is a slight chance that they've moved this transponder back this morning around 6. Although it's no jump there, so it could be another kind of correction. We will see. I anyways expect that they might tweak the signal a bit.

Hi All
10964 11.5dB
10773 10.6dB
10993 10.7dB
11023 10.8dB
11053 10.6dB

Snapshot just now using VU SE
Can only assume John´s readings are being effected by the data signal on 11008, maybe need to adjust skew?

Yep. Only needs to be a fraction out of skew and that data transponder flattens the adjacent transponders.

Signals in Astra 2G Europe beam are almost identical to Eutelsat 28A Steerable, and better from Astra 2F and Astra 2E European beams.
