Anyone willing to post some 2G reception reports from Canaries or Africa? The Europe beam should be an easy catch in the Canaries and the old Eutelsat 28A D transponders should now be visible too. How is 2G's UK spot compared to 2F UK spot?

Some frequencies to check:

2G UK spot
10.964H 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S
10.994H 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S
11.024H 23.0 2/3 8PSK DVB-S2
11.053H 23.0 3/4 8PSK DVB-S2
11.067V 23.0 2/3 8PSK DVB-S2
11.097V 23.0 2/3 8PSK DVB-S2
11.127V 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S

2G Europe
11.224H 27.5 2/3 QPSK DVB-S
11.225V 27.5 2/3 QPSK DVB-S
11.264H 27.5 2/3 QPSK DVB-S
11.265V 27.5 2/3 QPSK DVB-S
11.582H 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S
11.597V 23.0 8/9 QPSK DVB-S2
11.671H 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S
11.686V 22.0 5/6 QPSK DVB-S

I can get 10964H, 10994H, 11067V, 11127V, 11224H, 11225V, 11264H and 11265V.

Of those, there is nothing really new (or of interest) and therefore has no real impact on what I can / can not receive already on 2f/2e.

So, no better off but no worse off either.

I can receive all 2G Europe beams in Fuerteventura with a 1.2 metre dish.

I can get 10964H, 10994H, 11067V, 11127V, 11224H, 11225V, 11264H and 11265V.

Same here. Full availability but nothing that is not available on the EPG.

Can I just confirm the dish sizes that you are using as the implications of the above are highly significant: are you saying that all the transponders implied by Timo's post above are receivable on a) a 1.2M or b) failing that a 2.7M in the Eastern Canaries? 10994H is of particular interest for obvious reasons for us Lanzarote ex pat folk.

TIA

Ahh I see... Ok just the European beam then. I would be interested in what the final conclusion was in regard to the UK spot - whether it is fully receivable on 2.7 or 2.4m dishes in the Eastern Canaries and whether the position had improved from Astra 2E.

I think Fringe is saying some then, with his 2.7? Anyone pulled it in with a 2.4?

Cheers

Quick update.

Recently got back from a 4 week break. Apparently we had some really strong winds while I was away. Satellite reception of BBC1, BBC2, ITV's, Channel4's and others were completely gone. Channel 5's were the only 'mainstream' ones available. So called someone out to check and realign my dish - first time for 3 years.

Job done and now get BBC1, BBC2, ITV's, Channel4's but lost all Channel5's. I see they were moved whilst I was away but TBO it is no great loss to me anyway.

One thing though, the guy who came recommended a different quad LNB so I let him trial his (replace my combined invacom/laminas feed horn) and hey presto - better reception. Now get really good signals. The only occasional problem child is channel4 itself but 4+1 is fine so use that for any recording activity.

Don't know what the new LNB is. He would not say (not surprised). But it works for me so happy (again) now.

Any chance of a photo to see if someone here can identify it?

It is encouraging to read that a 2.7m laminas dish can receive the UK spot beam in the Canaries.

I would love to know what size dish would get back the spot beam here in Malaga, problem being no-one has big enough dishes here to try, also they are too expensive for trial and error.

There are no verified reports for this area at all, but surely if the signal extends to the Canary Islands then we must have some signal here? I know that the footprint is not uniform.
