Possibly Auto Symbol Rate, but havent seen it expressed as a feature on anything I've seen.

Hello richardp.
Have you got a receiver with auto symbol rate ?
I believe rolfw is correct in what he said.
EG: a nokia 9600 with DVB 2000 will produce this when you do a search.
You do not need to know the Symbol rate or FEC when you search for a channel, just the approx freq.
There is a new receiver from USA called a Coship 3188C which will do a search without knowing any Freq,Sym rate or FEC.This is called a blind search.More on this receiver can be had from Roy Carmen on Yahoo groups, feedhunters.
Regards.

Auto SR is used by a number of receivers, in particular the embedded Seca units from Pioneer

Most simply rotate between the five different symbol rates in a way that you do not recognise, only the locking indicator lights up slightly later - ala the Hyundi Irdeto machines

Blind search is also a now thing, (Pioneer again) and in some respects the Digiquest P2000 and Simba receivers - from Aston in France - have always had such a system

Blind searches if performed correctly will take a full night to achieve
