Hi,
I am new to dreambox, have some question and would be very grateful if somebody can help.
1. I have bought dreambox 500 with sharing, how can i backup the sharing configuration before doing any changes to my dreambox so i can restore it later if something goes wrong.
2. Do i need to restore my sharing configuration after applying new image?
3. What is the best image (i can see lots of post talking about gmini)?
4. I managed to do streaming to my PC, but when changing channel I have to restart VLC again, is this normal?
5. I have edit my channels and loaded them back to dreambox and now i can not access file mode any more, Dreambox freezes and gets stack when trying to access file mode, any idea why is this ?

I have read the ultimate idiot guide, it very useful thanx to contributed to this.

Make sure you keep a copy of your cwshare.cfg from /var/keys, gb*x_cfg from /var/keys and gb*x from var/bin.
As for image what ever works best for you, for me its Pli or Polar image.

thanx sonic1,
couldn't find those files, I think I am using gmini with ccCam acording to the information in this forum, could this be the reason for not finding them ?

If using ccam then yes forget what I have posted. Am sure some can point you in the right direction.

Take a backup of these specific ccam files:

/var/bin/CCcam
/var/bin/capmtserve
/var/etc/CCcam.cfg

While you're at it you can copy the whole of /var onto your PC.

Use DreamboxEdit to backup your channel list- you'll need to re-store and scan the satellites though.

Hope it goes well :)

But remember - it's a Dreambox - keep a hammer handy to show it who's boss ;)

Hi,
Just to share information with others. Using Dreambox 500 remote is irritating as you have to make the remote straight in line with the drembox. I have seen a post to enhance this and tried it on my dreambox and it showed an excellent result, now I can use the remote form any angle. The idea is very simple, just make a small hole where the dreambox LED is located.
