Bad experience with Amazon.co.uk

I am really annoyed with Amazon.co.uk. :mad:

I've been a customer for four years and must have spend well over ₤5,000. Anyway, I bought some carpet cleaner off them and it didn't work. It was a waste of money so I wrote a critical review. Three days later when I went back to check on the review, I found it had been deleted. So I complained to Amazon.

The reply I got was staggeringly bad customer service. The guy said 'we always delete your reviews because they're never relevant.' I was fuming because when I checked all my reviews they had indeed been deleted. I wrote back and said, 'YOU'RE WRONG, MATE, ALL my reviews are relevant because I am a very good customer who pays YOUR wages and don't forget that.'

I got a standard reply back, but I'm still not happy. They also refuse to give me a refund. Is there any place I can complain that's not connected to Amazon?? Like an online shopping standards, or something.

I've seen a few negative reviews on Amazon, but it is a tad disconcerting if they are indeed deleting negative reviews, as many people rely on the reviews to inform them about a product's suitability.
 
I also use Amazon a lot. However, it's not that common to see a product without a negative review. Indeed, I've not purchased some BluRay's because of the less favourable reviews. With the reviews you had deleted, are there still negative ones for the products? And are they only mildly negative? If so it's a persuasive argument that really bad reviews are being deleted to 'sway' the ratings. As Rolf says, such an action would be quite a concern.
 
I will not be buying anything from Amazon ever again.

For them to tell me 'your reviews are irrelevant' is one of the biggest insults you can give a customer. I so want to report them to some other consumer body. :mad:

* The reviews I had deleted were both good and not so good. What irritates me was the way I was told, 'all your reviews have been deleted BECAUSE they're not relevant.'

I asked, 'what you saying, that I've been talking about my holidays when I should have been reviewing a product!' Idiots they are. :mad:

I have in the past bought many things from Amazon, I always read the reviews both positive and negative ones. It never ocurred to me that they would delete reviews because negative ones were always there for all to read.

I would have thought that the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) would be the ones to contact as they are currently targetting web page advertisements ( I know because they have been on our backs where I work part-time). Filtering out unwanted reviews may very well be common practice but hardly ethical.

I felt like contacting the newspapers. Maybe the Scottish Sunday Post. They love small quarrels. ;)

But sure, it's very annoying to be told, 'your views don't matter to us'. :mad:

UPDATE: Advertising Standards are gonna look into Amazon's filtering out the bad reviews. :)

Maybe they will also look into the eBay 'positive feedback only' wrt sellers.

Well it proves I wasn't losing my cool over nothing. They agree there is no point of allowing reviews if at the end of the day, they decide which reviews are relevant. That ain't right and it ain't proper.:)
