It should clean up well with a jet wash and represents decent value at £110.
The 4 bolt hole design for mounting should be friendly enough to adapt another make of polar mount to take the dish.

A few years ago the 1.8 CM's were selling on eBay in excess of £200 but prices for satellite dishes seem to have dropped quite a lot in recent years as the number of hard core DX men gets smaller. I think £110 possibly represents the price nowadays for a 1.8m CM, perhaps slightly higher up to £150?

The price of £30 indicates just how far prices have fallen for hobby men dishes.
 
To be fair, there are still a fair few enthusiasts about.

In the past, it was about getting the foreen pr0n and football in D2MAC, hence bigger dishes and other expensive ancillaries. I don't call these "enthusiasts". They just wanted to watch what the couldn't watch on Sky. Or for "free".

These days, with super fast internets and countless of cheap-ish IPTV services, there is simply not the same level of demands for more channels. A single cheap package on a relatively small dish will get 90% of content that 90% of people will want to watch.

The remaining 10% would be the enthusiasts looking for feeds, getting what no-one else can get - those obscure channels, the thrill of receiving something from far away (catching those last analogue signals from 70W in C band last year was my highlight!).

While the dishes may be cheaper - I got my 1.8m CM and a huge NPRM for only £40 - the things that go on making it a fully working system is still expensive. Van hire + fuel, mounting, metal fabrication, the Venture jack, cabling, concrete base for the system... I spent at least £1000 on top of the dish cost. I am already £500 in for the SMO36 motor restoration.

Not many would be prepared to spend that much for anything these days (except a crappy new car), let alone a satellite system, but we are still around.
 
Absolutely agree Captain Jack, I'm sat in a room with probably 5k worth of stuff just on satellite, let alone the stuff outside and its rarely used these days! It was fun at the time and is still occasionally interesting, I have no regrets. :D

I am not saying us enthusiasts have any regrets, I have no idea of the cost of the junk I have bought that never got used, not bothered about it, I kid myself "it might get used one day". My point was related to the dwindling number of hard core enthusisasts who would buy kit.

As the number of enthusiasts gets smaller it weakens the market for what might be called enthusiast kit such as larger dishes, higher spec receivers, feed assemblies etc. A few years back a CM 1.8m dish was a relatively easy sell, I sold one on this forum for £600. Move forward to today and there is one listed on facebook for £110.
 
Since i moved to a non sat friendly place (cant see much of the arc because of buildings) i have been slowly selling my sat gear with the prices declining as time has gone on. It has been enjoyable hobby and if i dont count the fuel i have used travelling around the country picking up sat gear, a cost neutral one ! i have bought lots of sat bundles taken out what i wanted and sold the surplus on not making money but covering my purchases. now i am down to one 1m dish currently not used.

With the latest shower of restrictions to adult / other content via the internet, larger dish sizes will again be in demand before long.

Buy what you need now at market pricing, or speculate, buy when the price is right and store for a rainy day.

aye cuz people want their p0rn fix lol & no age verification on satellite. plus who wants to keep having to give out sensitive information like bank or passport details to some dodgy sites, screams of being left wide open to identity theft & fraud

Certainly is - i paid £1500 for my 2.2m from the factory many years ago and it was in bare metal, no paint.
 
The possible issue with those Elite dishes is that they are without feed support arms and without any mounting system to fit the halves onto.
I suppose you could bolt the two halves together face down on the ground and then measure the fixing points on the back of the dish to fabricate some type of mount?
 
If I remember correctly, the 3.7m Elite dishes were with drum mount fixings on the rear ring. The cylindrical steel drum would be fixed to the dish at one end and to a dual axis slew drive or suitable fixed/motorised mount at the other end. The dishes did not have the traditional three boss head fixings on the rear ring.

Also, I think the feed arms were rim mounted as a set of 4 rather than the traditional three face mounted feed arms found on smaller dishes.
They are very nice dishes and a good project for anyone prepared to give it a go.

The rumour I heard was that the Goon who bought the dishes did not have the mandate to buy them from his employer at Goonhilly, supposedly a bit of a fuss over it?

I recall a plethora of goons frothing for bargains when Elite had their fire sale.
