Batten Down The Hatches 2017/18

Conditions were really bad yesterday, constant strong Westerly winds and bursts of heavy rain. It was almost bad enough to stop us going out for lunch...almost, but not quite.

In satellite related news, I'm having to replace the dish SWMBO uses for her Agatha Christie repeat TV (Freesat) because the plastic holder for the LNB arm has finally got to the point where it won't take any more wood screws to keep it stable. I'm trying an Opticum dish as it's replacement...

The dishes in "dish alley" appear to have survived (most of them, apart from the TD110, need realigning anyway) but the purple-sprouting broccoli below them has suffered a severe attack of "drooping" - will aim to post a photo later (when I get up the energy to go outside as I'm still recovering from that awful cold/flu bug attack)

Devastation in dish alley - at least to the broccoli!
OTOH: seem to have lost the connection to the 2nd (non-motor connected) LNB in the Inverto Twin on the TD110 - probably one of the (rather too many!) connections between that LNB and the TM in the "office". (Probably won't be fixed anytime soon, considering how I feel ATM).

Whilst all signals into the house from the dish farm upstairs are working well, I know I have to go onto the roof sooner than later, since there is a 'drip drip' noise on some nights in the corner of the main bedroom, annoyingly they go quiet before daylight.

Put my first dish (H-H NEC/Jaeger) on the top of the front bay window and did my best to make sure the fixings were waterproofed - but it leaked after about 5yrs!

Something to try later this weekend

Got the mother of all winds (outside) in the past ten minutes, was woken up by the sound of something metallic coming detached and rolling around on the roof above the bedroom.

Vicious gusts here, woken up by wheelie bin being tossed around somewhere. Wind likely to be with us for some time.

Glad I've guyed down the Gibby in anticipation of the current conditions.

Second day of very strong winds here, though today without the rain, sleet and hail. The way the weather is going it doesn't look like I'll ever get the Laminas mounted back up...Anyway, at least the weather prevents out builder working on a roof somewhere else and he can finish our downstairs bathroom instead...

Looks like about 7 or 8" of snow outside, just waiting for BBC Newcastle to HTFU and announce school & college closures to know if I'm staying in bed or going to college today, probably going in anyway as there's no mention of the No. 16 bus being delayed/stopped/stuck, so no excuse I guess... :confused

The London Broadcasting Coroporation have whipped thmselves into a frenzy over this seemingly new phenomenon .......... Winter.

Best comedy ever.

Two drinks cans took about ten minutes to roll, in unison down the whole length of the road at around 5am , reawakening the stupefied.

Their resident clown rolls in at 4pm most days.

They're just annoyed that they have not mastered the weather in the same way they have the 'fake news' that they pump out on a daily basis

Well they do seem to spent more time creating news than reporting it, these days. Their output has been Kuenssberged.

snow 17 jan2018 (2).webp

Had a bit of snow here yesterday ( drab piccy as sun not back till 10. feb ) but quite mild - 3 to 5 C.

3-4 inches of snow Tuesday - I got sent home from work mid afternoon as conditions were deteriorating rapidly. Then all schools in the Borders closed Wednesday due to road conditions. Also an early decision was made to close them Thursday due to the amber snow warning - and we got at least a tenth of an inch :-rofl2

Back to work tomorrow though

Actual view from online yard-camera. Not so cold, about -5*C and little bit of snow. ScreenHunter_531 Jan. 18 20.52.webp
