A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

New rules commence today, the TV Licence fee includes the admin charge for Capita's 'efficient' operations, which is of course the spin used to get the contract for the BBC (and others) in the first place. Anyone prosecuted for using iPlayer without a licence in the UK as of today will be simply funding the incompetent.

A couple of mates of mine, that used the loophole to get out, of the licence.

They had a letter this morning, telling them that they will be coming to check if they have bought a licence.

All they have to do is say that they've stopped watching iPlayer and will now only watch ITV Hub and the like.

Or buy a licence...

The whole situation is a bit of a joke, I will tell them that.

They used to regularly get visits, to check if there had been any changes.

On a side note it annoys me that I have to buy 2 licences, one for each house.

But it's only me watching the tv.

Didn't students get to extend mum&dads tv licence, to the student digs? Or will they all need a licence also?

^^^^^ I thought they had to be Mains Independent in order to use the Licence of Mum and Dad.

Might be wrong - It's several hundred years since I was a Student.

Ditto. When I was in halls of residence I was covered by the home licence but the situation has, indeed, changed. Students need a separate licence nowadays.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

But they do have a Licence. It just happens to be free.

Thanks. Up till last year, OAP were exempt but they didn't get a written free license.
Starting this year, there is no need to pay for a TV license.

I suspect the need to actually apply for the UK Free TV Licence is for Record-Keeping.

The powers that be are inclined to send threatening letters to any address where no Licence is Registered. Even if you move house and are understandably dilatory about updating your address with the TVLA, you get an endless stream of malicious guff from them.

They had stopped issuing paper licences a few years ago?

All mine have been online pdf versions.

Only when they want to send you a "you need a licence, and we are going to knock the door" letter.

I got one about 3 years ago, when I inherited the Yeovil house, I transferred my licence from the Sherborne house, that's when I got you must pay or we will prosecute you, and from what a few of the neighbours tell me they did go door to door.

They did catch a few without a licence. Once I had the letter I went online a bought the second one. Still don't really see why I need 2 licences. As its only me watching tv, and I can only be in one house at a time, but that's another argument.

I agree with them to have multiple licenses for each address.
Each TV set absorbs transmissions from the air and basically you are paying for giving the TV sets the food it needs in order to work, otherwise there is no picture. If too many TV sets don't pay for the license, then those who have paid would not get the food their set needs and we can't have that.

But does that not mean "freesat" is a subscription service?

As the state says I have to have a licence, to watch the bbc.

I guess the same with "Freeview" * as long as you have a tv licence.

But then what about the people that were watching bbc prime? I can't watch it, legally, and the I am paying to be able to watch it.

this thread could get a bit out of hand, so perhaps we should just leave it there.
