Test slides for the first few BBC channels that will be carrying the Olympic borefest.

Transmitting fta, the current details are:

I see that the BBC are advertising their 24 channels 'on Sky.' Well they are certainly on satellite, Eutelsat 28A and Astra !N. Doesn't that mean they are 'on Astra' or 'on Eurobird?' I can't see where Sky comes into it except the channels show on their EPG (I believe). Sky isn't even the official Olympic Games broadcaster.

Simply because the vast majorityof the public wouldn't have a clue what "on Astra and Eutelsat" would mean. Plus the feeds are provided by Sky using their rented transponders so it's only fair to give them some credit...
 
It's also a fact that many many more people watch satellite via Sky than Freesat, the announcement will be aimed at them.

Thanks for the link but let's hope the frequency information is more accurate than the satellite names - 2D stopped transmitting months ago!
 
OK on your reply, Timo, didn't realise that Sky rented transponders, seems logical though. This also explains why Press TV was taken 'off Sky', they withdrew the right to use their rented transponder. I know that for ITV channels Arqiva provide the feeds, may be the same for BBC although they may provide their own. I am uncomfortable with the BBC advertising Sky both on the BBC and on billboards though.

I know what you mean but the fact is in the UK the vast majority think satellite = Sky. Sky have even shut down some of their Box Office pay-per-view channels to accommodate the BBC streams.

Funnily enough, just as I was reading this the presenter on Sky News just advised people to go to the BBC Olympic channels.

The BBC are strapped for cash - they recently shut down at least 2 transponders to save money, and there will be further cutbacks after the Olympics have finished, with more of the red button services getting binned.

Without Sky's involvement there wouldnt have been any chance of having all the Olympic streams as Sky have provided the tp capacity free of charge from what I understand.
