Yes, nice trio there. Do they ever get snowed up in this weather? Or is there a man with a broom on the staff? :-sman

Luvverly dishes

They have Walton De-ice in the Back of them, The largest of the 3 Requires Theodolite alingment to make sure it is perfectly Round, the smaller 1 of the 3 Is Spun off 1 sheet of Ally and then cut in to 2 sections and bolts together. the Med size is 5.6m, again this is Bolt together, there was a Company in Scotland that was part of a US company that made these, STV also have a 3.7 on there building in the City Centre I have some Pictures of when they were lifted to the roof somewhere.

Because of where the Dish platform is on top og BBC Scotland, and it is so far from the Dish build area the Crane had to be a 850 tone crane with a 45m Fly Jib to get the reach although its a 850 ton crane it wont lift anything that weight at long reaches it is greatly reduced the further away you get from the Vertex point on the crane.

This Video shows from down in the Dish build area that the first crane brought to site was miss calculated as we couldnt get within 27m of where we wanted the dish installed, the first crane was a 500 ton crane with 25m of Extended Fly Jib.

When you are in the Attach Files menu the file type and maximum size are displayed. Sometimes you have to put an MPeg inside a Zip or Rar to be able to attach.

Nice one, thanks for posting.

One word, Nice!

Its not just these big beasties that are kept heated to keep the snow off. The terrestrial network of transmitters in the UK are fed from satellite feeds (ie channel 5) and they have dish heating circuits on them too for the cold northerly transmitters.
