Unfortunately, that message has been there for some hours and I didn't know how to fix it - but I will try the "Beast" and port 3005 number changes tomorrow (the PC in question is now "off") and see what happens.

Thanks.

Chris (and others?)

My VRS screen currently looks like this - it's the same as yours, except for the "Cannot connect" message
View attachment 100323

And the top-level VRS screen looks like this:
View attachment 100324

The critical point being the message "The webserver is not on the Internet"

PS: Dump1090 is still running and delivering active data, but saying that no data has been downloaded or uploaded

Any ideas why?

As long as "web server is online" thats ok - I think "not on internet" refers to putting it online so you can access your stats when away from home.

Heres mine (maybe slightly wonky as Im not connected to anything atm - but it does work when the netbook is active)

Thanks - I had the UPnP message earlier but managed to get rid of it (as I think I said earlier) - so, hopefully, tomorrow this problem will be fixed!

Nevertheless - today has shown a lot of "progress", and so thanks again to you and Chris! :)

Morning all

Having another go at getting VRS running correctly, and also watched a video on YouTube - but still getting the message that the target m/c at 127.0.0.1 port 30005 actively refused connection when I hit the Test Connection button (also tried some adjacent port numbers with the same result).

IIRC the default installation port number was 30003, so why the change?

Also noticed that A/S's screendump shows a local (to him) network address instead of 127.0.0. 1, and wondered why that is?

Therefore I'm sorry but I'm rather lost again.

Slight update:

I think I've now tried most of the possible combos of Format, IP address & Port Nos - including those shown in a couple of threads on the SDRdisplay.com forum when I searched for info about the target machine actively rejecting connections - with the same result :(

PS: Now realise why A/S's network address looked like it did - and can make mine look similar - so one question answered

Here it is - exactly the same as the one I posted yesterday except for the Port No (was 30003 yesterday)

Thanks - have now done that, but no joy, same result except the that error message now refers to the PC's IP address (192.168.1.8) and Port 30005 (or whatever else I seem to select).

Must have done something fundamentally wrong, or not set something up as I should have, but have very little in the way of clues except the relative consistency of the error messages.

Could there be some sort of Port conflict on the PC??

Also beginning to wonder if Kaspersky Internet Security Suite settings might be playing a part in this - now trying to find out if it's firewall might be the problem, but seems difficult to actually identify where that is and see what it's allowing/blocking.

Dump 1090 has these port numbers

30002
30003
30004
30005

Make sure dump1090 is running, then load virtual radar server and make the change.

Close virtual radar server, and reload it.

I would stick to setting it to

127.0.0.1

30005

Just tried 127.0.0.1 successively with Port Numbers 30002, 3003, 30004, 3005. Each time I made a change I saved the setting, closed VRS, reloaded it, went back to the Options/Receivers page, and the new Port Number was still there - but, each time, when I hit the Test Connection then it came back with the same old message but quoting the currently selected Port Number.

Now dug down into Kaspersky and found the Firewall settings - this is what they show as:

Without actually completely uninstalling Kaspersky - which would be a last resort! - I can't see a way to just turn it off. I tried to End some of the processes in Task Manager but it won't let me (and I am logged in as the Administrator!)

My IP on the upper screengrab is not 127.0.0.1 as Im running two windows computers. My little netbook (may its poor little HDD rest in peace.....) has the dongle attached & lives on the windowsill connected to the aerial. Its IP on my network is 192.168.1.112.

I run VRS on my desktop machine which has the local IP 192.168.1.2

127.0.0.1 is the "local host" which is an ip reference to a bit of software jiggery-pokery inside any particular machine. Should I ever need to run VRS on the netbook I would have to run the 127 address on the config screen.

(The new hdd has arrived today so I'll start setting up again over the weekend.)
