Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.

Normandy, France
Enticing though the idea of having a Channel Master on a USALS motor might be, I think it's a recipe for disaster. Whether mounted on a Stab or another motor it's going to struggle to turn. I found a reference to the weight of a 2.4M CM being a minimum of 150kg. Being conservative and estimating the 1.2M to be a third of that, it's still 50kg.

Nah, the 1.8m is 47kg... The 1.2 is nowhere near that. About 25kg I would say. Still, forget mounting it on a small Stab motor.

People have it done though with the use of metal collars to make the mounting stub 76mm, 3 inch size.

I wouldn't risk it, I even think mine on a 1224 motor could be made stronger .

Yeah, 3" mast is a bit light-duty for 1.8m dish. I've got my 1.5m on 100mm mast.

You think? Hmm... I always thought 2" for 1.2m and under, 3" for 1.5m and 1.8m and 4.5" for 2.4m. I don't have any stability issues with the 1.5m on the 3" and I think I'd be happy with the same mast for the 1.8m... though not on the 1224 motor!

CJ, it's just what I'm using. The clamp on a Gibertini accepts up to 100mm. That is a groundstand for a Famaval 2.4m. Famaval 1.8m takes 80mm mast. But for CM dishes the masts are bigger. 114mm for 1.8m and 168mm for 2.4m.

The CM120s + AzEl is quite heavy. Way more than 17 kg. I'll weigh a CM120 + AzEl bracket + arms tomorrow and post the result.
I found the scales... much to my surprise, the dish is nowhere near as heavy as I believed.
The reflector + arms + LNB holder is just around 10 Kg.
The Az/El mount is just around 4 kg.
Add LNB, cable, cable-ties etc, and you end up around 15 Kg.
Method:
1) hold item near to body, stand on electronic scales, note reading A.
2) Put down item, re-weigh myself only, note reading B.
3) Subtract B from A giving weight of item.

I was surprised at the first reading, so I redid it twice in different order, with same results.

In the end I went for S.A.C 120, which is somewhere between 10 and 15kg. Ordering the laminas looked tricky. Had I known CM was under 15kg I think I would have bought one. Next time. Anyway, thanks for all contributions. I think it is an important topic for motorized dishes. I wish websites included more detailed information about the products they are trying to sell!

I am glad you didn't order the Channel Master - there's no way it would have lasted long on a DiSEqC motor. it's just asking for trouble.

After Lifting a Channel master 1.2m and a Gibertini 1.25m up ladders to mount i can tell you now the Gibby 1.25m weighs far more than the CM.

And thanks to @gibertini who just weighed the whole CM 1.2m with arms and A/Z mount etc it comes in at around 18kg quite a fair bit less than the Gibby 1.25 at around 27kg

A bit off topic but if anyone did want to order a Laminas and they were planning a trip to France (holiday or one day cheap wine trip) I'd be willing to have the dish delivered here and you could collect it from me. (though you should note it's a one piece dish) I'm about 2 hours from St.Malo and Ouistreham (Caen) and maybe 3 hours from Cherbourg and Le Havre.

Maybe not the cheapest option, but I had my OFC-1200 P shipped directly from Laminas.
Just request for a calculation including shipping, in English language is no problem!

I agree. Weight should be kept to dish alone, I am making my own mount ATM for a 1.8 dish, if you weighed it you would think its going on a 4mtr:-lol.

Then either my scales are on the low side (can't tell SWMBO!), or yours are on the high side (perfect gift for your SWMBO). ;)

But seriously, there seems to be several incarnations of the type 12x dish. the type 120 is the Rx only, and probably the most common one. (Those are the ones I have).
The Rx/Tx versions (122, 123 and 125) seems to come with differing reflectors (different pattern of ribs in the back), sporting varying feed-arm sets and Az/El mounts.
As your dish is tooway dish, i specualte you may have a 122 or 123, with a more substantial Az/El mount, and/or potentially a different reflector and feed-arm configuration.

I had done it before using these collar rings on a Stab 120 Motor but not with a Gibertini Dish....With a Gibby 1.2 one can use Adapter Brackets from the same company which fit snugly inside the Gibby own Brackets (IMG 0845) I use this, and also with another Gibby 1.2 I fitted in two ordinary 1 M Brackets to to make do with the necessary space needed (IMG 0846).
Now as regards using a Stab 120 Motor with a Gibby...well it can take it in a sheltered place but by time backlash would appear on the Motor and I found the most annoying thing is the slow movement of the Motor which is purposely done by the makers so as to be able to handle the heavy weight on its body.
