Heartbeat actor Bill Maynard has died at the age of 89, his family has confirmed.

The star, who played Claude Greengrass in the Yorkshire Television soap, died in hospital in Leicestershire shortly after breaking his hip in a fall from his mobility scooter, his daughter-in-law said.

R.I.P. Bill, breaking a hip at that age is a disaster, it did for both my mum and my gran at 90 and 93 respectively

Great actor in Hearbeat. Also liked him as Selwyn Frogget. RIP Bill.
 
I don't watch any soap operas, so I remember him in the comedy The Gaffer:
 
He goes back a long way, I remember him in TV comedies in the 1950's.

He used to be a regular attender at hinckly greyhound track, after racing he used to enjoy a pint in the bar, and he would welcome anyone to join him.

Perhaps he wasn't in Space1999 after all, (though he did appear in Bless this House). Perhaps that is where I saw him
 
Met him once, seemed a nice man, he loved to talk about things from his long career. I personally only saw him in Heartbeat, which I thought he was great in. RIP Bill.
