Changes in house occupancy in our road, and indeed many similar medium to lower value properties in Cambridge over the years means that, where once the majority of occupiers were families and older, single persons who would take pride in maintaining their gardens, the ever increasing influx of students and professionals looking for somewhere to live in the city has meant that much of the housing stock is being turned into let only properties ( house prices are second only to London - no young families, students etc. have a chance of actually buying a house here).

This means that nobody is particularly interested in maintaining their gardens, front or back. Result - scruffy wildernesses where once were tidy, attractive frontages and productive fruit and vegetable back plots were the norm.

No surprise rto find all the dishes have moved slightly as storm Ali battered the north of England & southern Scotland.......

Numeous trees & branches down along the roads on the way home & the local fruit trees have been stripped of their fruit. So now we have buckets of windfall apples & pears stashed to make jams & chutneys with

Storm Ali as captured on my NOAA weather sat tracking station Late afternoon pass, using one of the false colour enhancements so the details show up.

The weather here would still be reasonable for a BBQ, as the storm seems to have passed us by. Sitting waiting for our builder to turn up with scaffolding so he can get on with replacing the roof. Yes, finally, for those of you who can remember a photo of my 1.2 motorised dish, where it was pointed out that I had a hole in the roof, it's actually being done. We had the slates delivered last week. The carrier came in an artic which he couldn't hope to get down the drive, so used this natty remote controlled fork lift to bring the pallets down the drive...

I wouldn't put up scaffolding quite yet (unless your builder is a quick worker), there is much more bad weather on the way.

Well, it's taken him nearly a week to get hold of the scaffolding...and as yet he hasn't turned up. I think it's probably Monday before he does anything..apparently it's not scaffolding per se, but a platform that attaches to ladders?
