Timing is perfect for him the ground has thawed out now and beginning to bloom into spring, he should be kept busy
 
note it does not say "sacked" but "releived from duties"....
probably locked into a huge money contract - he needs the money to keep up the tan!!
 
That is exactly what gardening leave is all about, they are obliged to pay you full salary until your contract expires but will not let you back on the premises in case you sabotage something or steal something valuable from them.

In this case I suspect it will not be the silverware they want to stop him getting
