BSB dishes / squarials that are still in place

Incidentally I've been referring to "minidishes", but of course the proper BSB term was the "Compact Dish".

A few more:

Extant Squarials

SG6 - Letchworth - pointing North-west, maybe blown in the wind.
E13 - London

Gone but not forgotten

W12 - London - an STC dish with a BSB logo - all the other STC dishes I've seen are plain white. It was pointing almost horizontally so presumably had sustained a knock at some point.

I'm not sure that is a BSB one though, it looks a bit hefty...

I have been past the Bournemouth one literally hundreds of times in the past 35 years, by bus and on foot - yet only noticed it yesterday for the first time...

In a previous post I was commenting on how unusual it was for STC squarials to have BSB logos - but actually I suspect they just faded away quicker on these than on other types. The one here for example has a prominent logo in 2009, but it had faded completely in the last picture in 2019. Notice also how this one is pointing in different directions in different years...

A little bit off-topic, but I was always interested in the Wikipedia entry on Squarials, which says:

Due to production delays and limited availability of the STC squarial and to save face at launch, BSB sourced already available Squarials from Matsushita (now called Panasonic) in Japan which was producing them in quantity for the Japanese market

So in Japan, are there Squarials in every street? Well, maybe not, but below is a picture of a Japanese Squarial from the 1990s:

National PA350 (National is another brand in the Matsushita group)

...which has some similarities to the BSB design.

It looks as though it's designed to be mounted with the edges horizontal and vertical, unlike the UK ones which were mounted with the diagonals horizontal and vertical.

I wonder if there are still any DBS satellites broadcasting to Japan, and if so whether these can still be used.

A bit difficult to see for sure but it looks like there's an LNB on an arm there so, not a squarial.
