Hi,

I have recorded a movie from M*Vision using ProgDVB selecting mpeg2 format for the recording. I then tried to burn the *mpg file to a DVD disc using TMPGenc 1.6 but keep getting an "Illegal File Format" error.

Would anyone know if it is the M*Vision encryption that is causing the problem or is it TMPGenc1.6. Its confusing as I have definitely told ProgDVB to record in mpeg2 and TMPGenc1.6 says its not in that format.

Would anyone have any experience of burning ProgDVB recordings to a DVD disk that could point me in the right direction.

I am a bit of a newbie at this but managed to get my SkyStar 1 card installed OK then configured ProgDVB with SS2EMU etc but I have fallen at the last fence so to speak.

Thanks

Hi, you are missing out on a vital step.Load your mpeg2 file into a prog called PVAstrumento. This will fix dropped frames etc.I presume you recorded in mpeg2 from your sat card from Prog.
Use TMPGenc express as well as its brilliant to load in the resulting PVAstrumento file.Set your bit rate to vbr perhaps 4000 mbs max.
Load this exited file from TMPGenc Express into Tmpgenc DVD author then burn the resulting file onto dvd using Nero and "job is a good un".

Hi Satfan,

I have since done a recording using ProgDVB saving it as as a pva file. I then loaded that into PVAStrumento and converted the pva file to mpeg via the "make ps" option in PVAStrumento. Then, I loaded the mpeg from PVAStrumento into TMPGenc DVD Author v1.6 and went through the steps to author it to a DVD as an ISO file. It plays OK.

Are you saying that PVAStrumento will process the ProgDVB mpeg2 output file? I tried that and it could not get any file info from it to proceed to the next stage. However, as pointed out above using ProgDVB to record in pva format it recognised the file and processed it OK.

Lastly, is there an advantage, such as better quality, by using the TMPGenc Express with the PVAStrumento output file then passing it on the TMPGenc DVD Author 1.6. I ask as the v1.6 will process the mpeg from PVAStrumento into a playable DVD.

Many thanks for the reply & advice. Its a bit of a learning curve for a newbie all this stuff.

Regards
