Hi,

I have a few spare C Band LNB's for sale that are for the frequency range of 4.5 GHz to 4.8 GHz, sometimes referred to as C Band Extended. The LNB's have a LOF of 5950 MHZ and are of Chinese manufacture. I tested one of the LNB's on 40.5W today and it picked up both of the frequencies that are listed on Lyngsat ( 4581 L and 4641 L ).

Update:

After more tests with these C Band Extended LNB's it turns out that they have a much wider frequency range than the 4.5 GHz - 4.8 GHz listed on the label. From a LHCP scan of 40.5W with EBS Pro, the lowest frequency detected was 3980 L (ESPN Brazil) plus quite a few other frequencies all the way up into the extended band.

I have attached a picture of the scan result and a couple of EBS Pro signal analyser pictures. Based on the scan result, it seems that the frequency range for the LNB's is 3.98 GHz - 4.8 GHz, offering scope to be used in part of the normal C Band frequency range.

As a point of interest I compared the SNR dB values between a Chinese C Band extended LNB and a Titanium LNBF. The comparison was done for the LHCP transponder range of 3980 MHz to 4641 MHz. The Chinese C Band extended LNB performed quite well against the Titanium LNBF even though it is specified for 4500 MHz to 4800 MHz and was working on frequencies outside of its specification.

Equipment:
Precision 2.0m prime focus dish
AV-COMM polo pipe
Chinese C Band Extended LNB attached to WR229 flange feed inserted into the polo pipe
Titanium LNBF inserted directly into the polo pipe
TBS 5925 USB device
EBS Pro

Update 3:

The previous tests that I carried out with the C Band Extended LNB's have been confined to LHCP on 40.5W as that is the polarity of the signals in the extended range. However, to further test the scope of the LNB's I ran a signal test for RHCP even though there would be no extended range frequencies detected.

The test revealed that the LNB's can detect signals as low as 3920 MHz which is quite a way beyond the stated specification of 4500 Mhz to 4800 MHz.
With a larger dish the frequency range may possibly be wider as there seems to be some drop in signal level at the extreme lower end of the range.

The Chinese C Band extended LNB performed quite well against the Titanium LNBF for RHCP even though it is specified for 4500 MHz to 4800 MHz and was working on frequencies outside of its specification. The Chinese C Band extended LNB found signals as low as 3920 R.

The C Band extended range was not scanned as there are no RHCP signals on 40.5W in that range.
