Hi friends..
was ..thinking last night about making a C-band lnbf adapter/mount for the triax multi feed ..
To this end I began an experiment ..
No idea if this will produce results ..but ya know me ..its gotta be tried
Filled a small tray with dot n dab adhesive mix ...and just as it was beginning to harden took a sharp knife to it ..
Carved out a basic shape using a cband lnbf retaining plastic as a template for the curve.

Cut a small piece of wood to fit exactly inside one of the triax ku lnb mounts so that I have a mid section plug to the mould ..
trimmed to fit exactly inside the mould mount section ...so that I can pour around it ..
I have since ordered some East-flo 2 part liquid plastic from ebay ..
When it arrives I'll mix a batch and hopefully cast the bottom half of the c-band mount.
I'll post pics of the success or failure of this project when casting is complete.

Very nice ideea is a C and Ku project on a multifeed dish!

My opinion is that 5W in the focus is the best choice for Triax dish (cca 110cm) because on this sat there are strong C band signals and a 2nd reason : there are a lot of satellites Ku band in da neighbourhood!

I also have a dream o combining some C and Ku lnb's on a simgle dish and fix it on da eastern region.There are a lot of sat's with strong signals (4 my QTH of course)!like 80E (NG Wild,TV3, 7TV), 83E(ch from India)75E ,90E ,76,5E .

I'll also give a try in da summer but i'm looking 4 an larger offset dish, especially with a strong lnb holder.

..Well the liquid plastic arrived today ..
Mixed a 50/50 quantity ...enough to fill the mould ....blew away any dust and poured ...
30 minutes later ...the rough ..use once only plasterboard adhesive mould was cracked open ...and a rough diamond emerged ..

Here are the latest photos ..
..it remains to be seen how well it will clean up ..
but the plastic 'Y' appears good and strong ..
..and the claim for the plastic ..is that it can be sanded and drilled ..
I'll post results when they are ready..

Final pic for tonight ..
My hands are tired ..and getting this lump to shape will take a while ..
This pic should give some idea what the finished bracket will look like ..
The block of wood simulating the aluminium mount bar remains inside the plastic Y for now ..
Added strength during the sanding process ...but will have to be drilled out when everything else is finished..

Hi friends ..
..did a couple of hours this morning ..
basic shape is now evident ..though final sanding and drilling to do ..plus the removal of the wooden block ..
..now exposed in one of the photos ..

I have to say ..1 or 2 small bubbles did form during the hardening process ..but not enough to cause major problems.
Though ..If I were starting over ..I might include some very small strips and squares cut from glass fibre matting ...
..to give extra strength and grain ..

Hi!
I have never tried C-band reception yet, only got LNB and holder for that. What was the idea behind to make holder instead of buying one for 2 EUR, just because that holder fits for particular antenna?

Hi Rima ..
Yes ..it is specific ..
Its designed to slide onto the aluminium offset multifeed bar made for Triax offset dishes ..
This they don't make ..
Presumably as they dont consider it a required fitting ..
A ...because it wouldn't be economic ..(not much demand)
B ...because a smaller offset dish isn't generally used for C band (considered too small to pick up anything useful)

Do remember ..this is just an experiment ..
Firstly to see what can be aquired in C band on a small offset dish ..
..and also to see the viability of using liquid plastic to make unobtainable parts.

..Well m8's ..
here it is ...the completed item ..
A few bubbles in the mix ..but I doubt this will make it weak ..
The back of the lnb will obviously require support due to its length ..and the resulting leverage ..
No idea how well it will weather ...but there's only one way to find out ..
Will definately try it on the multi feed bar as soon as I'm fit to climb ladders again ..
All in all ..a very pleasing outcome ..
certainly good stuff this liquid plastic ..and the longer its out of the mould ..the better it hardens ..

Interesting technique - the final article certainly looks vastly more attractive than the embryonic version hot from the mould!

..Indeed Gordon ..there was an ugly reaction when the plastic was first poured ..
Probably to the plasterboard adhesive ..
Next time I make something this way ..I'll try and find a less reactive mould environment.
Still a result is a result...

Much the same happens when I pay with mine.....

There's more than a touch of Heath Robinson about this VS. (I fully support and endorsed this however!!)
