C5HD no longer ftv

Various posters on the DS forum are saying C5HD is no longer ftv but requires a full HD pay subscription.
Can anyone confirm?
 
Looks like it needs the Entertainment Extra+ for C5HD now.
Tried it on a few of my cards, and that is the only one that opens it.
 
Is this the beginning of the end for FTV cards...get channels onto FTA or pay and don't have FTV cards anymore...just before the rumoured sky card change next year...?
 
I would imagine so - it doesnt make Sky any money and Freesat is well established now.
 
But there's still the Regionalisation issue ................ that said, Freesat manage it ok.
 
Presumably if you didnt have a card in a Sky rx then you would just get the default regions end of story.
 
so this seems to put an end to the speculation that ch5hd is moving to freesat (?). good news for us, i guess, because this was it might stay on a PE beam, along with e4hd, more4hd and film4hd - the sd version of these will be lost for sure on 2E UK
"freesat for sky" is really becoming pointless...
 
Encryption deals are typically for 2 years, so that would suggest no C5HD fta until around xmas 2015!

cant say Im bothered if its fta or not to be honest - I can honestly say I never watch anything on any of the C5 family of channels.

how can people be expected to pay for channels that are free in sd. this is why i hate my own country(well the way things are anyway)
 
Quite easily:

Sky have financially helped help many HD channels get off the ground, by paying the start-up & transmission costs.

If C5 HD had gone fta all the money help would have stopped, they would have had to contract extra tp space.

Instead of forking out many £millions every year C5HD will now bring in money to the company with their cut from the HD subscription pot


Make no mistake - without Skys financial help few of the C4 & C5 HD channels would even exist.

Anyone want a bet thats part of the deal is financial help for 5*HD & 5USAHD launches (as subscription channels naturally...?

Thought it was 5 years for encryption? That was the reason that E4 and More 4 took so long to get to Freesat. And wasn't C5 itself the same?
 
i read somwhere their deal is up in 2015 but that might have changed now
