Cabling: Suggestions welcome

I have client who has very specific needs & with the existing cabling infrastructure I am struggling to achieve the desired results. They need:


Satellite feed to all outlets: 13. Hotbird

Terrestrial TV to all outlets: French (not UK)

Sky RF2 repeated to all outlets: Feed coming from another source elsewhere in apt.


Existing cabling infrastructure:

Quattro LNB 13. Hotbird

Terrestrial feed

RF2 return up link

Single cables to each outlet


With the existing amp/distribution system it works but the Sky feed is fuzzy. I tried a Triax DDU in there but it is too limited to work (I can't have any outlets having all 3 systems).

Perhaps I am doing something wrong or perhaps what I am trying to achieve with the existing infrastructure is impossible.

If the sky rf is coming off a sky box try moving the rf channel down the band - they default to ch 68

Use your meter to find an empty channel for the Sky RF out to use. If you're in a very busy area you might find a bandpass filter necessary to clear some space.

How many outlets are you working with?

Trying to split a signal too many ways can cause the signal of one device to be too low to be properly received.

Over amping a signal can also cause problems, one signal too close to the Sky Feed channel may cause the Sky Feed receiver to cut down is gain via the AGC control.

A signal meter may be able to detect the higher level channel but a spectrum analyzer would be the better tool to do the job.

Not only are you combining all the transponders from the satellite but all off air signals and the signal from the sky box into one output, this causes a ton of other signals to be created, inter-mod products (the combining of two or more frequency's to create a third or more unwanted signals) can cause the primary signal to be attenuated or interfered with.

A spectrum analyzer will help sort out these unwanted signals.

Intermodulation is unlikely to be a problem, as all but the Sky output will be digital signals, it is more likely that the Sky RF out signal is sat on top of an out of area digital multiplex and needs to be moved, channel 36 is normally the best bet.

How are you combining the off air terrestrial with the Sky RF feed? I have a similar system working over in France and several over here without issues.
