Can anybody help me if i can be able to see hotbird and astra from my location nothern nigeria? thanks for your assistance.

I wouldn't think so m8, it seems too far round the world's curve...but I could be wrong. :)

The satellites will be almost overhead in northern Nigerian! However, as theres almost no signal transmitted your way, you would be far better off looking at one of the satellites actually transmitting into the west African bulge.

What a NOVEL way of putting it:)

Hmm, then methinks why the original poster cannot pick it up, unless he hasn't tried it yet.

Believe it or not it is possible to get some Astra down there :)
Hotbird 4 was available in Bamako Mali on a 4.5m dish before it moved to 7W so it could be that it might be possible to get also some frequencies of 13E on huge dishes.

BUT we don't speak of stabile reception all over the time. Here in a german board there is a member reporting: http://powerforen.de/forum/showthread.php?t=197873&page=2

This member writes, they have 2 professional antennas of 7.5m at Lagos, 2 6.5m at Abuja, a 5.4m at Jola and at Bauchi. So first of all it's easier in northern parts of Nigeria but as you can see i would not start below 5m. The latter 5.4m are handmade dishes and get good results. To have the optimum signal they have to realign the dish each half an hour because of the satellite wobble. Which frequencies can be gotten that's a non yet answered question. I really don't know how the situation is concerning 28.2E/28.5E.

If anybody knows more please let us know. This is extreme DXing and rare ;)
