hi all presently using a gbox(vbox) via my spiderbox receiver to operate my 1.2m dish which picks up 30w to 21e, then i manually move another gbox via its own remote to move my 85cm dish from 42e to 21e,both going through a diseqc switch,is it possible to run both gboxes in series so that when the receiver calls for diseqc position say 40 and the 1.2m gbox hasnt got this position programmed the other gbox controlling the 85cm dish moves thanks guys

Hmmm...
An interesting question.
I've no second Vbox ..so no way to test it ...but providing no positions are duplicated on the 2 vboxes...and providing the diseqc commands are passed through the box ...which I assume they would be or you couldn't mount a dual lnb with an internal switch ...then I see no reason why it wouldn't work ..
Since the motor control / limits / etc are predefined by the Vbox itself ...I can see no conflict of interest.
I say ..go for it ...in theory its got to work..

Hi Iwol
The difficulty only arises ...IF ...you try and loop the lnb signals to both dishes through the 2 Vboxes ..
This is how I would do it..as it would lessen the insertion losses introduced by passing the lnb signal through 2 vboxes.

assuming say 3db los per item

2 vboxes daisy chained plus disqc switch = 9db loss
1 spitter plus 1 diseqc switch = 6db loss
at least ..thats what I'm assuming..

thanks for that viperscan but whats the first thing from the receiver splitter with powerpass on a mean

my first thoughts were to come from the receiver to the diseqc switch and then put the vbox on the feed to each of the dishes after the switch what do you think

Hi Iwol ..
That should work ok ...assuming you are using a stacked diseqc system ..and that the diseqc 1.2 control for each of the 2 vboxes is passed through the diseqc switch which presumably uses a simple diseqc 1.0 command ..
Hopefully the receiver will introduce a delay so..
Receiver will issue diseqc 1.0 command
Switching to correct output/dish/lnb..
The diseqc 1.2 command will have been slightly delayed (hopefully) ..which will then transfer control the the relevant vbox ..

As to my diagram ..
The device you ask about is a simple splitter which usually takes the form of 1 input and up to 4 outputs..
Power is only allowed on one of the outputs (needed to power the lnb) ..the other outputs are passive and have no power allowed through ..
with my setup ..delays introduced by the receiver should not be neccessary ...

cheers when you say power is only allowed on one of the outputs, is this switchable thanks

Loop through the v-boxes first and then the diseqc switch. Loss is pretty low through the v-box and nowhere near 3dB, more like 1dB and no loss of signal to noise (unless it is faulty).

By the way a v-box needs voltage on the coax otherwise it goes into standby (at least all the ones that I've come across do).

thanks heuvos so from receiver to vbox, link to other vbox then to out on diseqc switch and leave the two dishes on seperate inputs on disqeq switch ,is this what you mean

Hi Huevos..
interesting that you say vboxes need power on the coax or they go to standby ..
My VboxII doesn't ...
up untill recently I didn't use the coax connections ...as it was in use only as a remote controlled stand alone positioner..
It never went to sleep ...
..it would have defeated the object as it where ..

also ..I'm pleased to hear the insertion losses if 2 units daisy chained ..are minimal ..
good to know..

good point vipersan the vbox i use for my small dish that i use the vbox remote with has no coax either

are they switchable

..well it looks like you have the nod for using 2 vboxes on your 'spider' ...
..either method will work ...but certainly I wouldn't place the vboxes _after_ the diseqc switch ..
I suspect that might create problems if delays aren't used...

There's some sort of logic in there. If mine is in standby and I power up the receiver it switches on. If I power the receiver down or switch to a terrestrial channel the v-box goes back into standby... but you can override it either way with the remote.

VS, I've got a question for you. Have you ever used a splitter (power-pass or non-power-pass) to loop diseqc commands?

I don't think it really matters that the power is passed to the vbox ...
They are designed to use a powered line after all ..
So a basic power pass on all ports device will suffice ..
Just been looking on the WWW ...and the single port power pass splitters are rare these days ..
I bought the 2 I have some years ago..

Indeed I have Huevos ...
My current verrry complicated setup is using one at the moment to leach the diseqc commands _only_ (no lnb control) ... from the Openbox...in order that I can send them downstairs to control my Vbox (c band only & actuator driven)...whereas the powered port is used to pass desqc 1.1 commands to a 4 way switch...and usals (diseqc 1.3) to my 2 motorised dishes..

thanks for all this vipersan/heuvos whats you final first choice:) then

Ok, but you were controlling it with the remote. The question is if you sent a DiSEqC command up the coax without voltage would it read that command off the coax?

Yes it does ..
I use a non power pass port on the splitter to pass just the diseqc 1.2 commands to the vboxII via a long run of coax...if Im upstairs with the Openbox ..
However..
If I'm downstairs with the AZbox (where the vbox is actually located) ...I just use the remote handset to control the same dish..
