Cannot receive BBC 1-4

Hi folks,
i would like to receive BBC one, two, three, four.
the data necessary for reception is:

Astra 2D Satellite (28.2° East)
Transponder 45
Frequency: 10.77325 GHz
Horizontal polarisation
Symbol rate: 22.0 Mbaud
FEC5/6

I can watch any channel with these data except for channels with a symbol rate of 22MHZ. Unfortunately BBC 1-4 requires a symbol rate of 22MHZ. Where is the problem? Is it because of my LNB, my dish, or my receiver box? Or somewhere else?

I am from Germany.
Thanks for you help

Forthermore i cannot set my receiver box to FEC 5/6. It accepts only 1/8...8/8, 1/16...16/16, and a few other fractions.

It's probably your receiver if you can receive other channels that are broadcast on Astra 2D, Can you confirm that you can receive ITV1 and the FTA version of Five? Also, what is your receiver?

If you can't set the FEC to 5/6 then you aren't going to get them at all.

Astra 2D in Germany throws up dish size issues for Astra 2D, depending upon exactly whereabouts you are.

But it does seem your Receiver is unduly restrictive - not sure why, but if you tell us what it is, we can see if the light dawns.

Generally, restricted receiver flexibility is associated with some Platform specific kit and a generic DVB-S Receiver might be a better bet.

Those figures ("fractions") appear to be DiSEqC Ports, not FECs ......................... Most boxes these days have Auto FEC, but even in they don't, the format of the figures you quote is not right.

Whilst reserving judgement pending specific details of your Receiver, I would also question the apparent restrictions on Symbol Rate .......... it would be most surprising for any recent Receiver not to be able to cope with SR 22000 and I wonder if this could perhaps be down to "finger trouble" ?

i use two different receivers and dishes.
Skymaster DX10 and Schwaiger DSR420. One dish has 80cm, the other 120cm.

Your hint concerning DISEQC seems to be right. In the menu its written DISEQC and not FEC.
Concerning "finger trouble": In the menu you can see the percentage of receptions quality. As soon as i change the symbol rate to 22MHZ the reception quality decreases to 0%.

If its necessary to buy a new and better receiver please tell me.

Neither can i receive ITV1 nor FTA

Even though the menu shows several ITV channels, i do not receive them. it seems that the ITV channels are just saved on the receiver's hard disk

Hmm. Are you selecting 22000 from a list or entering it manually?

The correct figure to enter is 22000 ............... so finger trouble is still in the melting pot!

Some of the ITV Channels are Scrambled (and not on 2D), which is why they are listed but not viewable.

Are you getting any of the FTA ITV Regions off 2D itself?

Although you've mentioned your dish sizes, you still haven't told us your location - and that is potentially important for 2D reception, as previously stated.

There should be no problem getting 2A, 2B and Eurobird 1 with those dishes, but 2D may be a different matter.

I get the feeling the consensus of respondents so far will be that dish size is the issue, not receiver function (give or take the confusion between FEC and DiSEqC etc.)

with both receivers you must enter 22000 manually. what do you mean by "22000 ...............". do i have to enter the dots?

Dont know whats meant by 2D. I dont get FTA. There are several ITV channels which are listed in the menu, but i cannot watch them ("no signal").

I live in Germany, in a town very close to Cologne (Köln).

hello,
just red the specs on the dx10 and it has the standard tuner like everything else.
it will tune free to air bbc 1 2 3 etc if you have a dish big enough and pointed to astra 28 and not astra 19.
sr up to 45m.
we need to know were in germany you are and if a 1.2 dish is bigh enough.
the dish must be aligned and scew set up and must be big enough for 28 east.

No, you don't have to enter the dots!

22000. That's all.

The 28E Satellite cluster consists of four Satellites: Astra 2A, 2B, 2D and Eurobird 1

2A, 2B and Eurobird 1 are reasonably strong across Europe and reception in Germany is not a problem with those dishes.

However, Astra 2D, which carries the FTA BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five Channels is focussed on the UK, and reception in other parts of Europe can be difficult or impossible.

Germany is a part of Europe which, due to it's location and size, cannot be treated with a "broad brush". In some areas, 2D can be received with dishes of the size you've got, but in others you'd need bigger.

It is reasonably clear now that the root of your problem with the required Channels is (Despite, as previously stated, apparent issues over Receiver operation) fundamentally that one of your dishes is not big enough. The 1.2m should be ok, as it seems, from freely available reports, that Cologne requires 85cm or above for 2D reception.

Also, as stated at Post #12, the ITV Channels you get but can't view are not on 2D and they are Scrambled. Only the ones on 2D are FTA .

Is the dish actually pointing at Astra 2 at 28E? If you're just going from a list of channels stored in the receiver then this will be there regardless oif where the dish is pointing!

Is there ANY channel from Astra 2 that you see on the TV?
