Cant flash DM800. Any ideas

Hi Guys,

I've an original DM800 running an older Nabilosat (approx 12 months old) image and it mostly works fine. There is an issue moving from V to H channels where I get a channel cannot be found error and it then loads the channel 5 seconds later (its fine moving from H to H, from H to V or V to V)

I've decided its time to get upto date again and am hoping the newer images might fix the tuning issue. The problem i am having is that no matter what I try, I cannot get it to flash:

1) Dreamup doesnt connect via LAN or null modem cable (I know PC setup and the cable are fine as I used it on a DM500 at the weekend). I've tried starting up from deep standby and full power off, both with the power button pressed and not.

2) The update via web browser option works right upto the point where you point it at the image and click Flash. At that point, the browser waits for a while and then times out. Nothing changes on the box and when I pull the plug (it doesnt respond to anything else), the old image loads up just fine.

Any suggestions or ideas greatfully received.

I had a similar issue with my original 800 out of the box. I updated to the latest drivers first then I was able to flash via the browser

If you're not using Firefox, try it.
 
Thanks Andel - I've loaded the drivers and will give the image update another try tomorrow as its time to put the kids to bed now.

B16MCC - I should have mentioned that I was using Firefox but also did try IE8 at least once just in case it was that but got the same timeout with both so put it down to a box issue.
 
Yes I did exactly the same when I got my 800.

Hope you didnt download the drivers I posted too quickly as I had posted older ones. You never know they might sort out your tuning issue too.

Definitely got the 2nd lot of drivers :)

Will report back tomorrow - will try a reboot first to see if the drivers cure the tuning issue before I reflash to the last nabilo BH image.
 
Guys,

I've now tried rebooting and reflashing but essentially nothing has changed. Still cant update the flash and still have the tuning issue.

I did notice that my bootloader is v61 which I know is old. Whilst I believe my box to be original, might that be a cause of the problem?

If its an original box as you said, then I'd update the bootloader, cant do any harm

I've just tried to do this but seem to be struggling on this also.

Using dcce2 (110), I sent dreambox-secondstage_73-r0_dm800.ipk to the DM800 and I got a confirmation that it was sucessful. I rebooted the DM800 and it still shows bootloader 61 on the screen when first booting and it still suffers from the same problem when I try and flash using the web flash option.

Any suggestions on how I should update the bootloader as that does seem to be the prime suspect at this stage?
 
Success! I have managed to update the bootloader and also re-flash the image :-thumbup

The key to the whole thing was to use DreamEnum to set up the flashing process. Even though all that did was open the appropriate page via Firefox, this time, rather than hanging, it ran the update.

I first did the bootloader to 70 and then the latest Nabilo image but it may well have been enough to go straight to the image (I'll never know unless someone else has the same issue.

Anyhow, I am now tweaking the new image and will report back later if that fixes the tuning issue.

Really appreciate all the help and guidance received here as it helped get me thinking and googling in the right areas!

OK - the tuning issue has now changed. Before I could guarantee that when I moved from a V transponder to H it would take 5 seconds and then after a Tune Failed message, the channel would clear.

Now it is less predictable (or at least I haven't spotted any pattern yet). Now it sometimes instantly clears changes that used to hang for 5 second (say ITV to BBC1) which is great. The flip side is that I now get what seems to be an intermittent Tune Failed message when tuning to a H channel and instead of clearing after 5 seconds, it just hangs. To clear it, I need to change channels to a V channel and then go back to the channel which just failed.

Next task will be to go to bootloader 75. Any other suggestions on how to tackle the tuner issue?
