One third of Madrid may be left without DTT for lack of funds to pay for the DTT distribution of the signals. 58 out of the 179 municipalities in Madrid, affecting around 270,000 people, are now facing a possible DTT blackout as the local authorities have no money to pay the maintenance of the DTT infrastructure operated by Abertis Telecom.

Abertis has refused to maintain the service as it is not being paid. Neither the Regional nor the Central Administration want to foot the bill passing the ball on to local Government.

This situation may be repeated in other parts of Spain from March 30th when the period to reset the DTT aerials following the digital dividend comes to an end.
