I've just looked onto the Sky internet site & discovered that Ch 4 HD requires the use of a valid Sky card. I have one available & my Humax Icord has a CI slot.
What type of CI do I need to buy?
How do the FTA boxes available in GB manage it? I believe that they don't have CI slots or any provision for use of a card.

Cheers
John

Hi, I have CH4 HD working on my Technomate TM6800. I do have a CI slot, but I use my Sky card straight in the card slot. To do this, the receiver needs to have the appropriate software to read a Sky card.

So the first port of call would be to find out whether your receiver can be patched to do the same. If not one of the programmable CAMS such as Diablo or Trex presumably will work.

Correct, Pure FTA boxes can't get CH4 HD (as far as I know).

Dragon/TRex and Diablo both work fine but they can't keep the skycard alive, so the card should be put back into a digibox from time to time to update it

They do without until C4 goes fta! :-rofl2

Aha,
must learn to read the small print!
So Ch4 SD is FTA but Ch4 HD not.
I assume that the recomended CAM's are not plug & play.
Will my local German Satelite shop know what to do?
They run the same Humax as mine & I could go to them with Sky card in hand.
So with all of that safely done can I expect to get all of the Sky channels that I suscribe to on the Humax including the Discovery HD channels?

Ref. my previous questions about ITV HD reception.
I no know haw to manually tune in the11426.00 H in but what are all of those PID's that are listed? Do I have to install those; if so how?
I believe that ITV HD only transmits occasionally, so I presume that the set up can only be done when a transmission is present.
Will this be a case of pot luck or is there information available about the
transmission times?

Thanks to all
John

I don't know how to do the tuning of ITV HD on your receiver obviously, but if it is possible, it can be done at any time. Although not transmitting programming, a holding screen is permanently transmitted.

It looks somewhat like the image below, but not quite :-rofl2

Thanks Robbo,
I'm getting there slowly now.
The shop that supplied the Humax Icord can also supply a Trex Dragon CAM.
The software route sounds much more refined (& cheaper possibly)
What method of encryption does Sky use, e.g. Viaccess?
I assume that any self respecting dealer will know if the reciever can be "patched"?

Ho hum,
the last time I tried to tune in there was nothing, "no signal" on screen.
That was done in the shop with their dish correctly aligned & BBC HD coming through loud & clear.
However all that they did was to manually tune into 11426.00 H; which for my simple mind should be sufficient but all of those PID's as mentioned by me previously may also be necessary in order to get reception or maybe not.
Can someone assure me that what the shop attempted was sufficient?

By the way Danit,
I forgot to thank you for your help regarding the "Patching" & CAM's

Cheers

(Struggling in a country that's a bit behind with things Satellite)

sky uses NDS Videoguard, the only cams that can read these cards are trex & diablo, I dont believe their is software available for the icord to read a sky card

I don't think it was. Luckily the dealer who supplied my receiver had patched it and downloaded a channel list to it, so I didn't need to fiddle. But gathering from other posts, generally the PIDs do need to be entered manually, or using a channel database editor if there is one available.

An iCord is a bad choice to receiver channels like ITV HD.
For Astra2D 100cm should be sufficent in your area.

Try to find a channel editor, otherwise no luck for ITV HD.

Eg. a CT 5000 HD can receive ITV HD without a channel editor and without problems since firmware 1.4x.
It even can be used with NDS card in the internal Cardslot.

Looks like I've been sold the wrong receiver although the shop told me it was the best available.
Timhan told me that a 100cm dish was good enough but as I had the space I went for 125cm. The signal strength & quality is super.
I suppose that ITV HD will change it's method of transmitting one day soon; at least what threads on this forum have lead me to believe.
In the meantime I live in hope that someone close to me will be able to get into the workings of my Humax Icord to get it to accept ITV HD signals.
What make is the CT 5000 HD & where is it available in Germany?

Cheers
John

That will be the Clarke Tech CT500. That will be available in your area. The internal hardwares of the CT 500 and the TM6800 are very closely related I believe.

Thanks Robbo 71,

it's a long & winding road that I'm traveling. I'll give that CT 500 a Google search, however having just shelled out 700€ for my Humax Icord + Gilbertini dish I will be more than reluctant to spend any more for quite a while & I don't think the supplying shop will do a swap for me either:)

To quote your recent reply:-

You were lucky getting such a good instalation done for you. My supplier did a fairly good job with the channel list etc.
Who could tell me about the channel database editor & the entering of PID's.
I feel sure that there should be a hidden menu somewhere, that would provide access to this for installation techy's.

Thank you all for your patience.
Cheers

DJP, I'm not a Humax Icord owner myself so I dunno if it really works, but I read on a french forum there should be a way to receive ITV HD on ICord

here's a copy-paste:
"use software GXLSCI 1.00.13 (OTA) et Uniformula 2.1.06.

EuroBird 1 (28.5E) - 11426.00 H - Txp: C5 - Beam: Steerable 1 DVB-S (QPSK) - 27500 2/3 - NID:59 - TID:2315

Service ID: 0000 PMT PID: 3400 Video PID: 3401 Audio PID: 3402 PCR PID: 3401 SUB PID: 8192 TELETEXT PID: 8192 Video SET: FALSE Service Name: ITV HD
"

I think we've gone almost full circle on this one now.
As I mentioned earlier I am a newcomer to this FTA world, only having used a Sky Digibox for years.
I don't have a clue as how to enter the information listed in that posting (all of those PID's etc.)& nor did the supplying shop.
All he die was enter the frequency & horizontal; obviously to no effect.
So there is a given solution for the Humax Icord!
What I need to know is how do I feed that info into my box please.

Cheers

Hi All,

another question about using a CAM & my Sky viewing card.
Firstly I have not yet spent the cash just in order to get c4 HD, however it may be worthwhile if when the iCord is kitted out with this, that I could receive all of the Sky & Sky HD channels within my package by going this way.
(By that I mean Discovery HD etc., not Sports or Films as I have only the basic Sky package)
Can someone confirm that this would be the case or would I need a Sky HD card?
With the Sky card & suitable CAM installed, would the Sky EPG then also be available?

Thanks
John

The sky epg is ONLY available to sky digiboxes - they use their own system and its not compatible with anything else. There are workarounds for some receivers that access things like the radio times databases, but unless you can find one for your receiver you will have to make do with the now and next.
