Channel 4 HD reception reports

My Satellite Setup
ITSarria LTE Internet, 2 X SKY HD, Invacom C120 quad LNB, Raven 2.4m offset dish, TDT (Spanish freeview)
My Location
Maspalomas, Gran Canaria
I am not receiving C4 HD with an 80cm dish in Gran Canaria (Sky sub.). I receive other Eurobird fixed beam channels - albeit sometimes with a little pixelation. C4 HD intermittently gives "No Signal", "There is a Technical fault with this channel" or a very few pixels of picture and broken sound. It was fine before it changed TP/bird.

I would be interested to hear where it is being successfully received, especially in the Canaries, and with what sized dish.

I am hoping I might just need a scew tweak or slight dish realignment, but I don't want to mess with it until I hear confirmation someone else is pulling it in OK.

Thanks in advance.

BTW - at the main house the 2.4m Anderews offset dish pulls it in 24/7.

I can receive it in Helsinki on an 80cm dish focused on 19.2E and an LNB to the side for 28.2E but not much room for rain fade.

70kms south of valencia. 80cm dish. Fergusson Ariva 100e. Gets C4HD from 11pm through to 6pm..so no viewing in the evening. The 1.8m PF dish OK.
But i know (ie second hand info so cannot confirm) of some 2.4m famavals further south (Calpe) that have a few issues with it around 6pm-7pm

Don't forget there is an 8º skew difference between Astra 2 and EB1. The following demonstrates this. Test, (Alicante at 9:20pm) using Satlook Color HD on transponder 12607 V:

90cm motorised, neutral skew: 7.7dB MER;
150cm motorised, neutral skew: 9.3dB MER;
180cm fixed, aligned and skewed for Astra 2: 7.5dB MER

So from that you can see that if the LNB is set perfect for Astra 2 a 1.8 dish receives that transponder worse than a 90cm dish correctly aligned and skewed for EB1.

By the way all these dishes have 24 hour reception of that transponder. The 3/4 FEC makes it a pretty easy catch.

Huevos, if I want to experiment with tweaking my scew more in favour of EB1 do I turn the LNB clockwise or counterclockwise (if I'm facing the dish)? Thanks.

Facing the dish you turn the LNB clockwise; facing the satellite, anti-clockwise.

I tried to tweak it but lost CBS Action (EB1 fixed reference channel) - no luck with C4 HD. I wonder why ?

Blue, 80cm is too small. I have successfully aligned 3 dishes here (all 1m) to get Channel 4 HD 24/7. Not a quick job! These were all good quality dshes. I tried another 1m today (a crap dish) no Ch4HD! I haven´t lost any channel off the Astra 2A/B birds that were being recieved (as far as I can tell). Are you getting CBS Reality (not +1 on your 80cm (I doubt it))?

I'll check CBS reality next time I'm there. I have a spare dish which I think is 1.2m. It is one of the ones the Germans use for 19ºE but part of the LNB holder seems to be missing (the arm has a curve to it and two holes which look as if a bracket should connect to them to go over the LNB). Would this be any good ?

I get SNR 62%, AGC 80% in western Germany with an 80 offset dish, most likely not properly aligned so could be a little bit better.

1.2M would be fine (surprisingly I aligned my Televes 1.2 onto CH4HD yesterday and very little improvement over the good 1m I use). If Televes dish I am sure one of the local suppliers could source you a LNB holder.

I just measured the dish. It is 1m wide and 1.1m high. I guess that makes it a 1m dish.

This what it looks like:

C4 HD needs a bigger dish than CBS Reality. FEC 3/4, rather than 2/3.
