after a day tweaking and up to 23 transponders, this is not good enough is it?, I don't know the next move for tomorrow.
at the moment I cam move the lnb backwards by 2 inches and keep the signal strength, so may do that next
 
If your only using 1 LNB why not put the arms back original, at least you will know the lnb is where it should be, by the looks of that its a guessing game ?
 
I only started with the dish, been in my shed with the house, no arms, no stand ,no lnb, has taken 18 month for this far. I do read up though, mostly study this forum, and realise their is an optimum distance for the lnb, but cannot find the info, so as you say, its a guessing game. Good entertainment though when the sun shines as today.
 
Well your doing well then :), you can get a set of arms for around £100, you have a nice dish there worth spending on it, Captain Jack will advise you where to get them from if you want them :).
 
Well I am quite proud of the arms I made, but if i could get a proper set for £100 i would, , maybe Captain Jack will see this and advise.
 
Eurosat should be able to supply you with a new set of LNB arms. By default, you won't be able to fit a C band LNB on it but at least you'll have a starting point and you shouldn't have any problem modifying them.
 
cannot find them on the site, thinking about it what could be wrong is the lnb, it is only 55 im from the dish surface, it looks as if this too small, but if it is to short, cannot figure out by how much.

You need to get the proper arms pal give them a call CJ only got his a few months ago, also in the link I gave you there is a link I posted up from over the pond that sells them, take a good look through the link and you will find it,

This is my dish, your lnb in the picture you posted is two low and not central.

Nice design, but I think you may/could have way too much metal out in front of the dish, it can (and has) caused signal scattering and phase problems, can you cut the two metal rods off so they do not stick up so high? (a couple of inches above the bracket would work)

Or replace the bolt holding the bottom arm with a threaded rod to hold the LNB up in place? This would eliminate the second metal cross bracket, or replace the metal cross bracket with a hard nylon one.

We found out early on that too much hardware out in front of the dishes focal area can cause all sorts of problems, some weird problems called "Hardware modulation*" and "Hardware reflection**"could cause the signals to drop, the hardware was redesigned to an odd wavelength of the desired signals, it kept this problem down to a minimum.

*Hardware modulation was only found on the TX side of the up-link dishes, does not occur on receive only dishes.

** Hardware reflection, a problem where a piece of metal hardware is just the right length, it resonated at some even wavelength with the incoming signal frequency (like a dipole receive antenna) this caused a signal reflection at the incoming frequency, this signal was 180 degrees out of phase from the main signal, this can or will cause a drop or total loss of the incoming signal.

Your dish is round and a prime focus dish, his looks to be an offset focus dish (taller top to bottom) so his LNB would be down lower then yours.
 
Or his dish is an elliptical dish and is mounted wrong, it could be 90 degrees out. (dish is mounted sideways)

Whatagoal1, does that dish have a hole at the top where a bracket could be mounted?

Can we get a photo of the back side?

@WHATAGOAL1 I would not look for original feedarms if I were you. And even more if those new feedarms cost a lot. You made good arms, just parts of vertical threaded bars better be removed. Put your LNB in antenna's focus and everything will be fine.
 
Length of the arms does not really matter, more important is that you can place LNB in the proper place. Feedarms I made for 1,8 Prodelin, all adjustable, and LNB holder adjustable as well.
