Channel master polar mount help

My Satellite Setup
1.2 Channel Master and polar mount, 1.2 Gibertini, 1m Orbital, SG2100A, tm-5400, tm-600 linux, manhattan xt-cm, v-box III, and lots of other stuff in the attic!

Hi, I have been refurbishing a channel master 1.2m polar mount, but when fitting it back together, something looked wrong, I figured out the elevation support had not been welded squarely to the crossmember, if you look at the pic when the mount is pointed straight ahead the elevation box section is not vertical so when the dish declination plate is fitted the top of this is not level. I imagine this would alter the skew slightly, but not sure how it would effect following the arc?
If it does effect the arc, I will have to remove the crossmember and weld it on square.
Any ideas on how it would effect the arc if at all?

That's way off, but have you tried the angle from a line between the top and bottom bolts ?


If they are also out, you might be able to shift one of the bolt threads for the bearings, which should work out with less effort.

(or a simpler way would be a small tap with a large sledgehammer)
 
Many thanks for that CH, I was just checking it was not supposed to be like that!
I just "found" a piece of 16mm square section so I will drill and tap that ready and then grind the old crossmember off and weld the new one on square (messing up my new paint job in the process Grrr) Must have been a "Friday night" production run when this one was made!
 
Well I ground off the square pivot crossmember, clamped it up vertical and welded it back on, and checked the dish mounting plate. Now it Looks a bit better!
Back to the painting (Grr)
I will start a new thread for help when I finally get round to setting it up, I would rather use my angle finder on the elevation and declination if possible rather than the scale on the mount (which I have painted over) It was set to a declination "lattitude scale on mount" of 46° when it was set up and working in my location which is 51.5°.

yes, that is the way to do it.
 
I still prefer the sledgehammer (one action as opposed to three)
