My Satellite Setup
1980s 1.5m offset dish, single output black ultra on a homemade sturdy mount, getting all channels 24/7 from sky with a pace digibox but no subscription so only bbc1,2 itv etc.
My Location
Sante Eulalia, Ibiza,Spain
Here is a couple of photos of my 1.5m unknown dish (£42 from an auction) with my technomate lnb. I am able to recieve all channels in Ibiza, Spain including BBC 1 from at least 7.30 am until 5pm. Never been out of bed before 7.30 am! BBC1 drops off after 5pm.

Please pay special attention to the mount of the lnb, hard to believe I made this all by myself!

LOL, excellent way of mounting.

Though it would work better and maybe improve your reception period if the LNB was at focus.

I agree, when I bought the dish it came with a c120 lnb mounted on the ring shown, after several attempts to get a signal with various new c120 lnbs I gave up trying. Decided to position a universal lnb in the middle of the c120 mount but again got no signal. I was contemplating suicide at this point and rested the universal lnb on top of the mount whilst going to fetch a cold beer, when I returned to the dish to dismatle everything the skybox had found and downloaded all the ftv channels including bbc1, I taped it in that position and there it shall remain!
A 1.5 dish recieving bbc1 in Ibiza is pretty unheard of, what a result!

Like it!

Do you have the address for the Patent Office? :-rofl2

try the inverto black ultra lnb and you may be able to have the channels for longer.

what was the lnb mounting on the dish when you got it as I'm sure you could make some sort of collar to go around a 40mm lnb and try optimise the signal more

It's pretty common, and a much stronger signal area than the mainland. And if you positioned that LNB in the right place it wouldn't be going off at 5pm.

I might try a black ultra, I am not back out to ibiza until april so I cant show the c120 mount, it was an aluminium flat disc that fitted inside the mount shown but could rotate, had 4 holes in it that fitted the c120 lnb. I will make a more substantial mount when I have time to spend on it, do you really think the black ultra will make a difference?

Yes. They are really good in the low end of lo-band where the 2D transponders are found.

i am on it, my next report back could be how it improves the reception, around about april, allthough that will delay the new mount as I won't know what to build until I try the black one. Can you guys tell me if I am wasting my time with regard to the new sats that are launching and the stronger spot beams they may have on the uk rather than fringe areas.

No one can tell you that, you will just have to wait and see. Your location is only 1.3º off axis though so it is unlikely that it won't be receivable with the right size dish... although there are plenty of pessimists out there.

I shall wait and see!
Just invested in a black ultra so will report back in April if its any better, when are these new sats/changes due?
