I am considering going motorised very soon and indeed have contacted an installer with a view to having a quote for this. However, I'm wondering how one can check if a wall would block any satellites?
The best possible mounting position for the dish would be in the backyard but I'm worried the front of the house may block line of sight to the west satellites. The back elevation of the house, where the dish could be mounted, is not quite south facing - looking at dishpointer, 7W would be the satellite that would be "straight ahead" from the wall - but it seems good enough to mount a dish on. However, the front of the house is to the right. The wall where the dish could go is 320cm wide and is the same height as the wall to the right, which is at right angles to the wall where the dish would be mounted and is 240cm wide. My calculations say that the angle to the wall from dead straight ahead would be 53 degrees which should mean, if the dish were mounted right on the edge of the wall, the wall at right angles to this won't block anything up to and including 58W. Am I right in thinking this? I understand other obstacles could cause line of sight issues but just wondering about this wall for now.
