My Technomate 5400 has a CI card/slot. What goes in here, if anything. It also has a card slot above this. What should go in here and where can I source one from?

It all depends on what you want to watch, and how you update the TM5400 receiver.

Some subscriber services are embedded within the CAM, so no card is required, some are card only with the correct receiver (embedded solutions), so no CI is needed.

Additionally some stb's and other consumer system devices (the majority of new televisions for example) have an updated slot mechanism (CI+ , not to be confused with CI plus) which allow devices to be connected that include recorders and broadcast standards transcoders, reducing or stalling the need to upgrade the box if more features are required by the user.
