hello, when flicking through fta channels i found something called itvi stream 44, what is it for?
 
Its been there years - its just a simulcast of CITV.
 
No idea. Could be. There are all sorts of extra "channels" hidden away which dont show up on most receivers as they are flagged as data channels. Some receivers ignore the data flag and display them. Nothing very interesting - and a lot of them are encrypted.

ah the channels no use to me, but at least my new setup is working
 
also i just noticed on a fta reciever, when channels are off air, it behave differently to sky or freesat boxes
 
What do you mean? Do they get all sulky and lock up?

not really for example when citv is off the air, i get a black picture but with the citv logo

for bbc four when its off air: it starts showing cbeebies hd
 
Don't know about cITV but for the other, BBC4 and cBeebies share the same frequency. FTA boxes can't distinguish between the two (they show what's on the frequency regardless of content) but Freesat and $ly boxes use their EPGs and channel identifiers (PIDs) to get the difference.

Yes.

But CBeebies and BBC4 have the same PIDs, too. They time-share.

ie They are, in effect, exactly the same Channel.

Most boxes scan the pids when they scan in the channels, having said that, sometimes you may need to override the default pid entry.

The pids act as a sort of road map to the data stream so your box knows what bit of data is what channel and the correct audio. (Simply put)

so one takes over when one is off air then?
 
Yes.

Changeover is 7pm, so you can witness this by tuning to CBeebies right now and waiting a few minutes .

There have been many instances when punters have said they couldn't scan BBC4 in. All they had to do was try again after 7pm.
