1.The best thing you have done is to use CPU-Z to know your motherboard, ram type and so on. Then you will decide on what to buy.

_http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

2. If you install win 7 OS or Vista, I will tell you what to do in order to use than 4GB of RAM.

I am using Win 7 and my PC can use 128 GBof memories.

I ordered from Ebuyer last night, the RAM came this morning, just installed it, 1GB in slot1 (black slot) and 1GB in slot2 (red slot) that right so far??
I didn't realise the 1GB ones are actually slightly smaller then the 512GB, is that right?? (i don't mean lengthwise obviously, otherwise they wouldn't go in if they were smaller in length)

anyways, i've powered me computer up and its recognised the RAM as 2GB which is good...

So, is there anything else I need to do or missed out or is that it??

for reference, now that I have took out the 512MB RAM that I had in me system, here are the details; (exactly whats written on the label of the RAM);

SAMSUNG 512MB 1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-10-A1
KR M378T6553BG0-CD5 0441

now, next step is to install Windows 7 Professional (Full Retail version),
which one do I install, the 32bit or the 64bit??

also, the Windows XP professional which I have been using is not a ******* ****, am I ok installing Windows 7 (a genuine one) over XP so that I don't have to go through the partitioning of the harddrive, or it best to do a clean install?? if so do I have to go through the partitioning stage??

Is Windows 7 an upgrade or the full version?
If it's the full version, do a back up of everything you want to keep from your hard drive then boot up from the disk, format the hard drive and install Windows 7.
If it's an upgrade disk you might have a problem as it will try to validate the original copy of Windows XP.

Install the 32 bit as your system doesn't need the 64 bit version.

I mean the program to check if anything alse needs upgrading before I install Windows 7, the RAM was the obvious 1 to change cos I only had 512MB, so I changed that, I need to know if I am gonna have any graphic or network issues etc..

A faster motherboard springs to mind (only if the side cover is off of course). :)

Just ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, the results show that;

A custom installation is required
I have plenty of Harddrive space
My graphics adapter supports the Windows Aero user interface

CPU speed: 3.2 GHz
2.0 GB of RAM

Everything else is also Good apart from the following;

My devices that might have a problem and need a driver update;
802.11g USB2.0 WLAN Dongle
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (version 1.99)

Visualization technology not supported on my system for Windows XP mode
