If you have a broadband router, then you connect to that using a standard ethernet cable. If you don't, then you use an ethernet crossover cable and connect it direct to the ethernet port on the PC.

If you haven't got an ethernet port on the PC (most modern PCs have them), then you can add one for around a tenner.

PS. Moved this to the dedicated Dreambox section. All newbies should look at the Guides.

And a null modem cable is useful for flashing the Dreambox (adding a new image to it).

No no No :)

Use the PC, the router and the net for stuff like this

Make it the easy way:eek:

Read the user guide here at this eminent place Try a dreambox search

After reading that U are nothing less but a pro. It is very well written

Even I can understand it

No no no.

Null modem cable = reliable.

TCP/IP = unreliable. Very likely to go wrong.

Yes no yes no yes no yes

Theoretically what mhku is saying is true, better to use null modem for flashing as it is safer. But practically everybody is using the LAN for loading images as it only takes about 2 minutes and does not require removal of cables and connectors etc.
I for one must have loaded hundreds of images to my dreamboy with the LAN cable, no problem there...

Yep, I'm with the ethernet option as well and only use the Nulmodem cable in emergencies, happily only had to do it once. :)

OK, next time I'll try the LAN method. But if it goes wrong....

;)

If it goes wrong. . . . . . .You've got your Null modem cable. ;) :-lmao

I have used wireless lan on 6 image updates on my 500s using flashwizard pro and its been perfect every time, maybe I'm just lucky?
Always use ftp over wireless to update files etc as well
