Hi ..
anyone recently done an upgrade and perhaps want to sell their old cpu ?
Im after a socket 775 core2duo processor to fit in my sat pci card tower.
I currently have a dual core which is plenty fast enough for SD ...but would like to get HD ..without it running that hot it shuts down the pc after a few minutes.
I'm guessing anything around the 2 ghz mark would probably be ok.
They do occasinally pop up un fleabay ...but usually dealers who want an arm and a leg for 'em

I have a Compaq Presario SR2000 motherboard here with a processor and (huge)fan sitting on top of it , that I bought as a job lot a couple of months ago.

Never plugged it in as I don't have a compatible video card for the new fangled slot.

If it's the right one for you its yours for a tenner inc postage.

OK, never look a gift horse etc, but with the postal strike it won't get to you any faster, and as I said , I cannot test it here (unless I can find a power supply and run a video card from one of the other slots).


Just a thought, will the duocore processor fit in other motherboards ?

It will fit in other boards providing its the same socket - 775..

certainly it should bring up the post screen and that would prove the chip is ok.

also ...yes you should be able to get a basic post screen ...using any old vga card in a standard pci slot..
But hey ...its a chance we both take ...

Found a power supply that starts the board up, everything seems to work (fan and a few bleeps even) but I can't find a board that will allow me to check the bios from the pile of bits here. Will look in the shed over the weekend as I think there is an olde 1995 ish tower in there with a video card.

Well, even with the video card installed (the largest one you'll probably ever see) , I don't have any compatible stick for the RAM as it is another design with the slot in yet another place.

So, for the money you get the motherboard/cpu/fan, rear plate, screws and the front panel with switchgear/sockets, just in case you need them. I'll throw in the video card as well as I have no need for it.

Hi friends..
I've already thanked CH for his kindness by PM in taking the time to sort out these parts and send them..
As well as the cpu which is now working just fine in my satellite card pc tower...after a bios update to the mobo...he also sent bonus items which I have no doubt will come in very useful.
