the Digital + story is just a rumore as far as i know ,the other thing ,i know for a fact ,the raid against the TELEMICRO company was for tax evasion and fraud ,but it all started from the telecommunications guys down here in levante area ,they got realy pissed off that (as they call it immigrants ) comming here and go above the law and rulez and set a bussiness on top without paying a penny to the tax office in other word illigaly,i´m pretty sure if that happend in UK ,it wont last even a day,i personnaly know few telecommunication engineers from the spanish authority ,i must say who ever is still transmiting illigaly to watch out because the next raid will be massive ,now they are just gathering maximum infos because they are after the big fish who fleed to russia apparently..some more news soon...regards
 
Telemicro is Spanish owned, although were a lot of Brits working for them.

especially when it is TVE (the spanish national broadcaster) , and not canal+, that signed a multiyear contract for the spanish rights to premierleague football in the last batch of international rights sales.....

and if it were true, canal+ would not buy the rights from bskyb, but the fa.....

the most popular 2.4 here in spain are the famavals...cost about 1300euros is to supply and install. and for an extra 400 euros ish you can buy extender panels to extend the dish to 3.1m....

Hi John40,

The only Scandinavian Channels available in Southern Europe are DR1 Syd and DR2 Syd (Danish State broadcast) but these are far from free which comes to EUR 270 pr year so they are not an option.

All the Scandinavian channels broadcast from Thor and Sirius (1 West and 5 East) with a very narrow foot print only cover, yes you guessed it, Scandinavia.

Thanks for all the replies - they really are helpful to a rookie like me.

The Costa Blanca has gone crazy with people wanting satellite dishes - the guy that is installing ours is being swamped - he said people were queueing outside his shop yesterday. Therefore what should have taken him 3 days with 3 men has taken him 2 weeks with just a man and an apprentice. He's doing a thorough job and that is what counts.

I should imagine there are problems obtaining digiboxes - last night (about 10 p.m.) he came to install our digibox and instead of being a Humax it is a Dark Box HD Rev 2008. It wasn't possible to see the result as it didn't work (we are the furthest away from the satellite and the first to have a digibox) - the guy was nack***! He's coming back this morning (hopefully).

My question is.... has anyone done a review of the Dark Box?

Bear in mind the Dark Box is not a Sky or a Freesat receiver, it will only be free to air. if you were hoping for a Humax Freesat HD, what you have got will not be the same. Do you know why it isn't working?
 
Hi Snap,

There was a signal problem from the sat. The amplifier was broken by a clumsy installer (accident) new replacement being fitted today. The low band signal was 45db before the amp, which the engineer thought was a good result?

There is a supply problem here with Humax due to the decline of rebroadcasting in this area.

Can you help with the product number for a HUMAX HD unit that will access Freesat channels and provide a card reader interface for optional Sly or Sly freeview channels? I will try to source the 25 units we require in the local market place.

The Dark Box HD rev 2008 has 2 card slots, SD and HD capable. Not sure why you say it is not Freesat compatible, from the programme guide I can see all the channels for Freesat and for BSLyB those that are PPV are marked with a $ sign.

The Humax is called the Foxsat HD Freesat receiver. It doesn't have a card reader and cannot decode Sky channels.
Your Dark Box will see the Freesat channels but will not have the Freesat 7- day programme guide, nor automatic updates. You will have to re- scan every time a channel moves frequency, in common with all free to air satellite boxes.
There is a CAM which can emulate a Sky card (not sure of what it is currently called but someone will advise) but there are downsides to doing this- namely the Sky card has to be active and to be returned to its parent Sky box once a month.
You're better off buying a proper Freesat box, the experience for users is very much better than using a FTA receiver.
 
It is interesting reading about all the problems with UK TV in Spain. we paid 600 euros about 10 months ago to CBTV for a 10 channel no subscrition package, their telephones appear to be cut-off and we only have 2 channels left. does anyone know what happened to them ? and what we should do to get at least a few more channels back ? It is a small digibax and small dish on the roof.
 
You'll have to start all over again with a large dish and a new digibox to receive anything worth watching.
The one you bought will have been specially modified to receive the illegal re- broadcasts.
Sorry you have been scammed. Reports in the trade indicate 60,000 people have lost their UK channels on the Spanish coasts following the raids by the authorities.
You can receive Sky channels such as Sky Sports, Dave and BBC News with a 60 cm dish and a Sky receiver in your location.
 
Snap, to receive the Sky channels you mention, apart from BBC News, you will need a Sky subscription.
 
Yes, of course, these are pay channels. There is direct trade-off in Spain between paying for a large dish for free channels and paying for Sky every month, using a small dish, to receive the south beam only.
You'd be worse off with Sky after 2-3 years, depending on the subscription level

i see you own a Prodelin 1.80m dish i will get one in the next few days,do you know about the polar mount if it actualy exist? i was put off to grab a CM 1.80m just because ASC dont make polar mount at all, also regarding the performance i have some experience with gibertini 1.50 dishes ,is there a masive difference between both..you comment will much apreciated ..cheers m8
 
There is, unfortunately, only an AZEL mount for this dish.
You're right about performance difference between Gib 1.50 and Prodelin 1.80, but there should be, Prodelin are professional- quality dishes at a much higher price.

i'm getting slightly confused here with size of dishes. Can anyone tell me what size dish i would need if i used a sky box with paid subscription in Murcia? I was under the impression i needed a 2.4 metre dish as the reception was bad but am also reading if you are a sky subscriber with a genuine sky box you just need a 60 + cm dish to receive the south beam?

Yes, it's true, the south beam and most of Eurobird can be received well in Spain using 60 -80 cm dishes. The receiver has to be manually configured to change the default transponder. Not worth doing unless you subscribe to Sky. A Sky HD box will receive Channel Four HD on this dish size.
We recommend installing a backup battery (UPS- from Carrefour or PC City) to prevent the receiver losing its settings during the many power cuts and voltage spikes in Spain.
A large dish is only needed to receive Freesat channels such as BBC and ITV. Some ITV regions, E4 Ireland, and Channel Four Ireland can be received on smaller dishes as they are on the north beam, and scrambled. A viewing card from Sky is needed for these channels. Take advice from someone here on the dish size for the north beam in your area, it should be slightly smaller than Astra 2D.
Hardly surprising you have got misinformation, installers want you to go for the most expensive option.
 
yesterday i pointed the dish towards Thor 1º and guess what! i got most NRK and canal+ channels from it:eek::eek: ,this gibertini dish is just amazing:-worship ,hopefully next week i will receive a sample from the russian manufacturer SUPRAL to do some tests...lets see how it will perform ,,is any member here has SUPRAL dish in costa blanca???...regards
